you have to zoom in to 200 feet, maybe less to see them.

"driving me nuts..." Was that a pun?

Edit:
I see very few Icons at 300 feet, but at 200 feet and 120 feet I see them all.

I have a Nuvi 765T if that makes any difference.
I would think the same holds true for the Nuvi 265WT.

You can walk a horse to water, but a pencil has to be led.

300 Foot Zoom

You need to be zoomed in to at least 300 feet to see POIs on your map.

You CAN see [[Custom POIs]] when zoomed out

There is a trick, but read the article.

THE POI'S THE THING
------Seeing Custom POIs At Various Zooms -- Yes You Can!

It's on Pg 5 in the POI section on the GARMIN TRICKS, TIPS, WORK AROUNDS, ETC. Web site

http://bit.ly/garmin_gps_tricks

ACT III is the particular section of interest to you.

FROM THE SUMMARY

3. You can establish a Custom POI with an associated large 24x24 pixel icon (.bmp) which can be seen at a variety of zoom-out levels when in the 'Simulation' or 'Go' modes when your vehicles icon is within the alert range. You can establish a large distance 'on-road' alert to force the icon to appear well in advance and can even take advantage of the 'radius alert' properties of the TourGuide element included in the .csv file name so that approaching the location from any direction will trigger the appearance of the icon -- provided your unit has .mp3 capability or you use 'sox.exe' and a special format .wav sound file

Also Cannot See My POIs while navigating

Hi there. I have a Nuvi 205 and a Nuvi 285WT. I can't see the POIs in the map while I'm navigating no matter how much I zoon in. I've tried in 3D and 2D modes - still cannot see POIs. The only time I see them is when I tap on the road while navigating and zooming in at 50ft. However, it would be great to see them while navigating. I can see my custom and Favorite POIs only. Please help.
