I registered my Fathers Nuvi and opted to take the Down loadable Map update, i tried to open it numerous times and it keeps locking up! Has this happened to anyone?
2010.20 Map Update
Is this the file you downloaded: garmin_rmu_cnnant2010_20.exe
If it is, that file is a rar compressed file. What you may be seeing is not a lock up, but the extraction process. When you execute it or double-click on it, that starts the extraction process which takes about 7 minutes.
I did the extraction as a seperate step, so I'm not sure what is displayed on the PC just executing the file. I'm not sure if a progress bar, for example, is normally shown during the extraction process. If not, then it may just look like it is locked up when in fact, it is working.

If you're using Windows Vista, things will go much faster if you temporarily disable UAC while running the map update installation:
Control Panel / User Accounts / Turn off User Account Control
