Did I miss something

I haven't tried to send a location to my Garmin from Mapquest for a Long time but I know I have done it before. Tonight I tried to send a Museum location and all it would do was email. The 'send to GPS' wasn't highlighted. Have they changed the rules? I figured a museum qualified as a business so it should work, so I tested a close by McDonalds and it allowed the first 3 places but send to GPS was not allowed. Any ideas about what I might have done wrong?
I found the coordinates online and entered them manually but I figured I must've been in error somehow.
Another lesson here: don't try to find museums in small (tiny) Iowa towns on the mappng programs. RoadTrip is useless for that, Google Maps and Earth are only a little better and Mapquest is the best but not great. I knew where this was anyway but never realized how some locales are neglected compared to bigger cities.

Google

I use maps.google.com. Works good.

Not sure why the other one isn't working. It did the same for me the last time I tried to use it.

Don't use Mapquest but had similar problem

using Google Maps. Here's the process I use....maybe it will help with your problem.

HOW TO SET UP GOOGLE MAPS WITH THE MAPPLETS AND SEND FAVORITE TO GARMIN USING COMMUNICATOR PLUGIN

This is quite easy.

* Go to http://maps.google.com
* Click on Tab 'My Maps' then 'Browse the directory'
* Find 'Position Finder' (first page) and click on 'Add it to Maps'
* Click on 'Back to Google Maps' (top left of page)

You will now find in your 'My Maps' area (on left) a category named 'Created by others' in which your mapplets will appear. Box check it and then proceed normally with a search, zooming in on your target in the satellite mode, then click your selected position. Your coordinates will appear in a Position Finder window.

* Copy latitude/longitude from Position Finder window (beginning with latitude number) and paste into Google Maps
* Place comma after latitude value
* Delete word "longitude:" (leaves just numeric latitude and longitude values seperated by a comma)
* Hit 'Search Maps'

[By copying those coordinates and pasting them back into the Google Maps 'Search' box and clicking 'Search Maps' you caused the program to re-identify the focus point to be WHERE YOU WANTED IT.]

You are now ready to send this location as a Favorite to your GPS using Communicator Plug-in.--

* Click the word "Send" on the 'Print/Send/Link' line near the top of the page.
* In the next window you will find, on the left side, 'GPS'. Click it.
* In the pull-down window under 'Brand', select 'Garmin' (do not choose Native American Drums.)
* Add name you want for Favorite in the 'Name' window.
* Now press the 'Send' button.

You will be transported to the Garmin WEB site where you will see a small map of your selection, a comment that your nüvi was found (remember you plugged it in previously.)

* Click 'Send to GPS'.

The new Favorite will be saved to your device, a confirmation note will be presented, and, via link, you can return to your Google Map to continue selecting additional Favorites if you desire.

Hope this helps!

Works for me

I'm using a PC and I can use Send to GPS from Mapquest with no problem. You may want to download and reinstall the Garmin Communicator Plugin.

GPS Location Mapplet

'Position Finder' is good and I used it for about a year, but you may find the newer mapplet 'GPS Location' even a little better. IMM It is easier to get and copy the longitude and lattitudes.

I talk about it in my article

NEW GOOGLE MAPS WAY OF GETTING LAT/LON COORDINATES
- Developer Tools or Mapplets of Great Aid

located on page 4 of the GARMIN TRICKS, TIPS, ETC...
Web site.

Look at the big yellow box at the end of the article for the 'GPS Location' update.

Multiple Points

I had been on Mapquest last week and had no problems. So, I went on Mapquest today and played around to see if I had any problems today. I was able to duplicate your problem.

I found that if you have multiple points on Mapquest it will not let you send to GPS. This is new from last week b/c last week it would let you send a route to GPS. If you make sure you only have one point, you should be able to send to GPS.

I'm OK this far but for the life of me, I don't see this window with the coordinates. George

Sorry George

but this now seems to work only when I'm logged into my Google account....another Google change, I guess sad Gary's method (and outstanding article) works so you might want to give it a try too!

Should be there. I did it

Should be there. I did it with Send being in upper left corner. Had email, send to cell, send to Onstar and Send to GPS.

You never know, though. I also use google maps and google Earth.
