Google maps satellite view

I like to use Google maps satellite view and street level view to verify coordinates. I am finding that in some locations the Google map is off from the underying satellite view by several hundred feet making it difficult to navigate the map. As an example, go to http://maps.google.com and plug in these coordinates
58.302250,-134.411509. Click on the Satellite view and you will see the problem.

Does anyone know if this is this an error in Google maps or something caused by satellite positioning errors? I noticed that Google has a "imagery misaligned" category on their error reporting page. Has anyone tried this? If so, how long did it take before the erors were corrected?

The only problems I see are

The only problems I see are that you have given the coordinates for the building, the green arrow. The orange marker is for the address on the street.

If you look up the address, on the street is where it will put the pointer.

Address Interpolation

I think it has more to do with the way google interpolates addresses. In the OP example if the address is 850 then it "should" be in the middle of the 800 block. If the address is 810 it should be in the beginning (first 10%), etc. Unfortunately, physical addresses are not always laid out in linear fashion; hence, this creates a slight error most of the time. The only way I know to correct this is to get the coords from the Sat view or actually go to the physical location and get the coords.

BTW, it looks to me that the orange marker is simply designating the 800 block (801 - 899) not an address.

map doesn't match satellite image.

I wasn't referring to the location of the specific marker. If you are in satellite view at this location and zoom out to 500 or 1000 feet (4 or 5 notches down on the slider), the map overlay does not match the underlying satellite image. It shows streets going over the roofs of buildings, out into the channel, etc.

Re: map doesn't match satellite image

Sorry, everything looks perfectly aligned to me. Anyone see the problem?

different server?

Hmmmm. I wonder if I am hitting a different Google server than you. It is way off when I look at it ... was way off when I looked on Saturday too.

Re: map doesn't match satellite image

It looks out of alignment to me also. The bridge (10th street) looks to be about 600ft south on the map from where it is on the satellite image.

Thanks for confirming.

Whew! Thanks for confirming that vshigeru. I was beginning to think I was seeing double.

street feature accuracy

You're looking at two different layers; satellite and street feature. The problem could be both. How do you know the satellite image is shown in the right location? Most likely the problem is inaccuracy in the street feature layer.
