When I first started out, your site was the first one that really taught me how to get the best use out of my GPS. I love it here at POI factory but found that later.

Please keep up the good work.

Great Job

Your site gave many people including me valuable information in using our GPS, its nice to see new updates, Good job I say.

Thank You

Thanks all for the very nice comments you have added. It is my pleasure to maintain the site.

You Are Invited ..........

If you have developed a technique for your nuvi, and feel that the Garmin nuvi Tricks, Tips, etc WEB site might be the place, or ONE of the places where you would like to share your information to the public, please write me and furnish an article in a format similar to what appears on my site -- a teaching tool; understandable; easy to follow; having the newbie in mind; and entertaining. I will 'jazz' it up with layout, fonts, color, graphics, tables and screen submitted screen shots -- for eye appeal.

Gary - at the risk of sounding like idiot, is there something unique about your website that prevents access?

I've used the following link:

in IE 7, Firefox, and Chrome, and each time I just get a blank page.

Would love to see what "tricks" you have on your site.

Thanks in advance..

long link .... same results

Thanks for your and WASSup's replies. I did try the long link but got the same results. I thought it might be a browser setting but like I said - three browsers, same result. I even turned off my firwall for a few seconds but to no avail.

I did shorten the longer link by removing the "/garmin.gps/index.html" at the end. It did take me to your website and I was able to click and visit all your other zydeco sites. But got same result when I clicked on the tricks and tips link.

Thanks again.

I can assure you that the site works.

Try dropping the /index.html and see what happens

If using IE, trying just going to
'http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3'
which you said you could reach and then making 'home.comcast.net' a 'Trusted Site'
Use the link
[Tools > Internet Options > Security
try Medium Security; Click on Trusted Sites then Sites and add 'http://home.comcast.net' to the listing.]

Let us know how you are coming along. Hoping that I or some other reader can give you the clue to your success in reaching the site.

Also try
http://snipurl.com/garmin_gps_tricks

[I take it that you are not using a Commodore C64 or a Tandy Radio Shack TRS 80 ;-)]

Gary Hayman

Thanks for your reply. Added 'home.comcast.net' as a trusted site but still did not work.

I did back into the site by googling (acceptable vernacular??) on '~ghayman3' and was able to get to page 3 on your site.

From there I was able to click on link for each page in your "navigation" box at the top and successfully access each page with the exception of two: TOC/Menu and Page 1.

Incidentally - great content and information on what I looked at last night. No wonder people have been raving about your site!!!

....and no I'm not using Commodore C64 or "Trash 80"...although those references do bring back fond memories of a different time .......

Great

Great information, thanks.

VERY helpful

At the risk of repeating the familiar refrain - great site which I regularly visit after reviewing the updates on POI Factory, which BTW are the ONLY sites I regularly visit (aside from my bank and the kid's home page!)

Garmin nuvi 2455LMT (wife uses nuvi 255w) (sold C330)

Thank You!!!

Thank you !!!

mpeters49 try this

Thanks for letting me know that you were able to reach the Garmin Tricks & Tips side through a Google link to an interior page, and from there you were able to go to all pages except for the index.html (or page 1) page. This means that something is different on page 1 than all the other pages. And that is true. Page 1 has my counter service link.

Apparently, your settings in your browsers are preventing the count and you are hanging.

I get a lot of traffic on the site over the years and you are the first that has informed me that you couldn't reach it. Yesterday (8/4), for example, I had 528 visits to Page 1 and 1,058 Page views.

So, I'm guessing that it is due to a setting in your browser -- of some sort.

I don't know if any of this will work, but you might give it a try.

In Internet Explorer 8
I use Tools > Internet Settings
-- Security - Internet Sites "Med-High"
-- Security - Trusted Sites "Medium"
-- "http://home.comcast.com" and "http://comcast.com"
-- Security - Restricted Sites "High"
-- You might check your Restricted Sites; Sites to make sure 'www.sitemeter.com' or 'sitemeter.com' are NOT listed
-- Under the Privacy Tab check to see if 'sitemaster.com' and 'comcast.com' are not marked "Always Blocked" and are marked "Always Allow"

These are just a few ideas that may help.

Page 1 is important as it does contain the MENU for the articles as well as the initial articles that I posted.

Let us know how you make out.

...thanks for tips...but no luck

Tried everything you suggested, but to no avail. I still get a blank page with the indication "Done!" in the bottom left hand corner of the frame.

I get the same result when I use Chrome or Firefox. I also checked my firewall settings but saw nothing that would prevent the page loading properly.

I doubt it's the counter, because I've been to other sites that have a counter.

My son has a newer computer running Vista (I'm running XP) and I was able to access the index/page 1.

...one of life's little mysteries...in any case I can still access what you have on your site - a lot of good information for "newbies" like me.

Thanks and hoe I can add a trick or tip for the "good of the order".

Same ISP?

Was the connection on your son's Vista computer from your same Internet connection and same ISP? If not, this could be a routing problem with your ISP. They may have a valid route to Gary's site, but not to the site hosting the counter.

Yes...same ISP and internet connection and common firewall. Only difference is he is running different firewall on his computer than I am. To check that, I even turned my firewall off to see if it was blocking anything.

Great hits and tips

Thanks for the guide, as a one month Garmin GPS user, found a lot of useful tips there.
