Very Basic Newbie Question

I've looked through the FAQ's but I can't figure this out. Once I download POI files, how are they displayed on my Garmin? Do I find them by searching Points of Interest? Do they show up with an icon on my screen as I'm driving nearby? I've loaded a ton of files and it just feels like I'm pouring them down a black hole. I can see the files are there, but where can I see the details on my Garmin? I'm all new to this and I'm leaving for a three week roadtrip this weekend. Thanks!

no menu...

I believe the other poster meant the zoom scale. You need to zoom in the map screen (+ and - buttons) to approx 200ft zoom level to see the POIs.

When you load your POI's through POI Loader (from Garmin) you should select "manual" and as you load the different files, you can select the distance in feet you want your alert to signal. Somewhere between 1000 - 2000 feet works. Once you've loaded the POI files, you will get an alert when you get near a POI. You don't need to "enable" a particular file for the alert to sound. A red bar at the top of your screen will indicate what POI you're approaching.

Garmin 765T...Is it about the destination, or is it about the journey?

So the factory POIs never

So the factory POIs never show up on the map automatically even if we have it at a zoom level less than 200 feet? Sorry i'm new to Garmins (just got a 255w)

Builtin POIs show up at 200 ft

What DorkusNimrod said previously about custom POIs also applies to the built-in ones. You need to zoom in to approx 200ft zoom level to see them.
