MapSource updates?

Mapsource 6.15.6 is the current version as far as I can tell. But when running Mapsource, you will be able to display your current maps--and City Navigator NA NT 2010.1 is the most recent version. Map versions and Mapsource versions will rarely update at the same time and will not be the same version number. Mapsouce updates when old bugs are fixed, new features are needed or for compatibility with some new map feature. Map updates for City Navigator NA NT will come out up to four times a year with updated maps and POIs. Different kettles of fish.

In Mapsource, you can check the tab for new software updates...or just keep current reading here at POI Factory and you'll most likely read that a new update is out. Ditto for map, firmware and other updates.

When you update the map on your Nuvi, it also updates the map in MapSource at the same time.

One last tip for you, daman. Updating your City Navigator replaces the old map with the new one in your nuvi, but with Mapsource on your computer, it keeps the older maps while adding the new map. It's nice to keep the older versions of City Navigator on your computer so that you can zoom in on a spot, then go from one map version to another to see how the map and POIs change over time. But especially with a small hard drive, over time these 1GB maps take up a lot of space and you may want to remove some. Note that (with Windows Vista, at least) each map version can be individually uninstalled from your computer (and removed from Mapsource) by simply going to Control Panel, Programs and Features, and uninstalling the maps you no longer want. [Remember that you can also delete the 2GB downloaded Map Update installation file after installing new maps, too, although you may want to back up the file to a DVD-R or other backup drive to keep a copy.]

I say this works for Windows Vista because someone wrote that the most current map updates do not appear in Windows XP's Control Panel, Add and Remove Programs, so that alternative methods are needed to remove no-longer-needed maps from your computer.

I have both 2008 and 2009 maps on my mapsource and i just looked at the add and remove on my system and they both show up Dont know why they wouldnt on all the XP home anyway.

i see my 2010 in add and remove also on my XP so we'll see if 2010.2 shows. i have 2010 already backed up.

For those of you who subscibed to the lifetime update before the 2010.1 came out, did you get an email from Garmin when the new map was available?

I did not get an e-mail from Garmin. I learned about the new map version here and other forums. I downloaded the 2010.1 version on 4/9.

I also did not receive an email. I didn't think you're supposed to unless there is a way to sign up for notification.

According to the Garmin website: "Sign up for our email notification, and we’ll email you when the newest data is available."

I did not receive notification from GARMIN about the new maps even though I subscribed to the service and email notification. I learned about the new maps (2010.10) from the forum here. Seems like GARMIN would be smart to buy space here and notify about new products here. Probably more readers here than the GARMIN site.

Maybe they forgot to tell all of us that they haven't actually implemented the notification system, yet.

yup there's a section to sign up for notifications weather it works and sends it out who knows till 2010.2 etc,i sighed up so we'll see, LOL.

not getting the emails as promised, what does everyone think of the new lifetime maps?

I signed up for the emails too several years ago and have gotten only a few. There seems to be emails that go out to some and not others ?

Weird.... maybe The same Garmin programmer who wrote the latest garmin firmware also programmed Garmin's automated email notification system.

Thanks for letting me know. I am with you on the fact that if you sign up you may or may not receive an email. And if you do it will be weeks after the release. But it's nice that they offer a notification.

MapSource and Nuvi maps are 2 different things. You don't have to update MapSource in order to use with 2010 NT map.

Right, but MS needs to be kept updated for you to do planed routes and look up address and things.
