I bought a Nuvi 755T about a month ago and it came with a free map update which expired on July 1. I attempted to apply the update yesterday (July 1) and found that it had already expired. I figured if should have been available on July 1 or the expiration date should have been June 30.
Lesson to be learned - don't wait until the last minute or it could already be too late.
One good thing, I didn'''t have the bricking issue.
Check your first sat.
Check your first sat. acusition date. If it was before you bought it then you may be able to still get your update.

.
You should have 60 days from the first satellite acquisition to download your free map update under the nuMaps program.
you only have a limited time to download the map
It is true that you have 60 days to register and check for the new map update but once a new map is offered to you when you register you only have a limited time to download the map and use the unlock code you are given at that time.
As I recall when I registered my new 885T it offered a new map update and it also said that it would expire as I recall in something like 15 days from that date.
