Nuvi 265WT non-routing mode keeps rescaling map

I just got my Nuvi 265 WT last night, to replace my street pilot 2610. I miss see the time while in map mode and seeing the time to next turn in routing mode.

But my reason for posting is that my 265WT has several times now changed from the map scale setting I had it on, to one that is about 800 foot scale. This is very irritating because I will scale it or zoom it back out again and it switched right back to 800 again. Currently I am in 2D map mode, and I did not have a destination set.

So am I missing something, or will it always do this?

Thanks for the helps, as I said, I am new to this 265WT.

It's called Autozoom and on most nuvis, you CANNOT disable it. The few units you can disable it on are the "high-end" (doesn't mean much anymore) nuvis: the 8x0/8x5 series & 5000

So I get autozoom even when I am not routing?

If it's anything like my 250W, when in 3-D mode (I use 3-D pretty much all the time) and routing, the auto-scaling zooms in when it thinks you're supposed to turn, then zooms back out upon completion of the turn.

In 3-D non-routing, I've noticed the auto zoom tends to be speed related. It keeps the zoom I set until I get up to about 57 MPH, at which point it zooms out thereby showing less detail. After slowing down, it zooms back in. I'd guess this helps with the refresh rate of the display.

Thank you both for your

Thank you both for your posts.

I understand routing mode. But in non-routing mode, can someone with the 265 confirm that it is speed related? I may test it this weekend to see if that is the case. If so them it may not be that bad. As I don't mind seeing more detail at lower speeds, and vice versa. Although I like the detail at the 0.3 mile level.

PS - Thanks to everyone that contributes to this site. It has been very useful and helpful already to me.

I think 265 is like 255

I have a 255 and when you are in NON routing mode the auto zoom is triggered on speed. the zoom in is activated below 45 MPH and the zoom out is activated abvoe 59 MPH.

Both of these zoom levels are adjustable. To do this, start below 45 and set your zoom level manually here you want it. Then accelerate past 59 and set your zoom level where you want it. The Nuvi will now remember both of these settings.

When you ARE in routing mode the zoom level is dependant on how quickly your next turn is coming up and it is a graduated zoom in. I don't know that these zoom levels are adjustable like they are when you are in NON routing mode.

This information is good

This information is good also for the 7x0 series, and I expect that it's the standard for all the models. My C330 also does the same at the same speeds.

Thank you very much for the information. That actually sounds like a nice feature. I have to admit I was thinking about taking it back because of they way it would undo my setting.

Funny how if you don't understand shy something is doing something it can be irritating, but if you understand it can be a nice feature.

Thanks for the help and can't wait to try it out this weekend. I will set two different zooms for the two speed levels.

Just for further info, the

Just for further info, the standard low speed setting is 800ft and the high speed is 1.5miles.

In 2d, when routing, it will automatically go to the range you have set as max, unless a turn is near. In 3d it will wait till you get to 59mph.

Yep, after playing with it

Yep, after playing with it for the weekend it does seem to switch at 45 and 59mph. Thanks to everyone that helped clarify that.

That is a nice feature.

Take care.
