I may get flamed for this but to be an active and productive user I don't think donating $5 every once in a while is a big deal for all the work it takes to keep the redlight camera files up to date.

I agree, What I've learned about POI's in the last few hours is well worth $5. It's a great resource.

So please enlighten me! How do you users use the GPSr on a motorcyle. Of course, I am not a motorcycle rider, but I would feel really awkward looking at the GPSr and not the road. I guess you have to have a model that has a headset jack as well, correct? I know that RD users plug their helmets into the jack, is that what you all do?

outta sight SITE!

Yeah u cant beat this site. There's other sites out there in www land that charges(alot) for downloading POI's. I've seen a BIG increase in GPS users comin to POI Factory. I think I first came on board last Oct or Nov. I was MIA for a few months. Now that I'm back onboard, I've noticed a very large increase in users. Miss POI has done alot to get this site going from the get go. I'd hate to see all this hard work go to waste. So the more that jump on board POI FACTORY the more its going to take to make this site run right. So I'm all for donations of all kinds. This is the BEST POI site in the World Wide Web. Thanks!

Hmm... let's see ...

I use MapSource sometimes to plan out rides in advance. Then I load these routes to my Zumo. This allows me to direct my ride to back roads and such that I choose to travel down. Then I plug my headset (speakers and microphone) directly into the mounting cradle of my Zumo. This gives me the ability to hear the nav prompts and other alerts.

Also, since my Bluetooth cell phone is paired with my Zumo, I can hear and see when calls come in. Since I have a mic, I can answer the calls if I want. Or I can press the button on the screen to ignore the call.

Also, since the Zumo has an mp3 player, I can listen to music as I ride if I want to. Useful on long rides.

Lastly, I have file from Geocaching.com (gpx files) containing cache locations loaded as POIs, so I can go to some of those as I ride.

How's that sound? ;p

Site donations

$5 is a small price to pay for the work these great folks do for us. Also, a lot cheaper than a SEVENTY DOLLAR TICKET.

awesome, thanks!!! I

awesome, thanks!!! I figured it was something like what you described. So are you a crouch rocket type of girl or hog?

The phone thing, you do all that in the helmet, correct? I mean the mic and headset is built into the helmet. Is the connection from the GPSr and helmet wireless as well? I mean for the Nav Alerts

Cruiser.

Yep, the headset (purchased separately from the helmet) is mounted inside the helmet. The speakers are right up next to your ears and the mic is right in front of your mouth. My headset is wired. There are Bluetooth headsets available, but right now the Zumo doesn't support the A2DP Stereo Bluetooth protocol, so it would be mono only.

The nav prompts, alerts, phone, and mp3 all come through the helmet speakers. The mp3's are paused when the alerts and nav prompts come up. The nav prompts and mp3's are muted during a phone call.

Oh man, beautiful bike! I

Oh man, beautiful bike! I want a bike so bad, but I am the crouch rocket type of person. However, I can appreciate them all. Beauty comes in all styles, no matter the interest.

I have always wanted to go across country with a bike and my dad, but he is aging and my wife won't let me on a bike so that isn't going to happen.

Nice

That is a beautiful bike, some day I will get brave enough to go for a ride with my Harley friends. I am a bit of a chicken that won't even go on carnival rides.

I think that whoever gets me on a Harley is going to have the full respect of all of our friends. It would be a huge sign of trust for me to hop on a hog and fly like the wind.

Bikes

You can always ride in a SIDECAR, Miss POI! wink

Nice ride there MM; I'm partial to the old TRIUMPH's myself. smile

Just had to mention that

Just had to mention that when I took my kids to the circus yesterday I saw some motorbike enthusiasts that I will not be hopping on board with.

If you are brave enough to hop on a bike and ride into a circular steel cage with two other bikes and bikers and drive around each other without colliding I am putting you into my "too much danger for me" category and will stay far away. It is sure exciting to watch them though.

Miss POI

I wonder if they use GPS to

I wonder if they use GPS to make sure that they know where they are going so they don't hit each other...lol.

Those guys that ride

Those guys that ride motorcycles in the steel cage are simply nuts!!!

haaaahhhhaaaaaahaaa

That was actually what was in my " " to begin with but I didn't want to offend anyone;) I am glad that you acknowledge the insanity of those involved.

Miss Poi

Geocashing with a Zumo... hmmmm...

Used to take my kids GCing with a Garmin Legend a lot. Have been a member for a while... but, not active. Really had forgot all about it.

Just downloaded all in my zip code. Will go out hunting for a few tomorrow. MM... thanks for mentioning it!

MapSource

I am not familiar with MapSource. Do you know if I could use it to program sprcific routes into my c530, or is that feature limited to the Zumo?

There are other units besides the Zumo that support preplanned routes, but unfortunately the c5xx series doesn't support that feature.

Preplanned routes

Thanks MM. I had a feeling the c530 did not support preplanned routes. It is not a big problem if I save some waypoints along the way to My Favorites. It is kind of sad that Garmin's newer units do not allow for multiple route way points, especially on the Zumo.

Yeap, get use to it! Soon you will be a grandma! I remember when my daughter turned 9. I was like, "Dang, she is half way there to being an adult". She is scaring me now, talking about BOYS!!!!!!!!!

The Zumo DOES support routes. I can load up to 50 routes with up to 200 waypoints. The SP 2820 also supports routes.

Ah Ha, I read some bad info.

Hey MM, I read some bad info. Here is what a comparison site said about the Zumo and multiple destionations:

"Can add only one via point (stop) to a route. Once you drive past that via point you can add one more."

http://www.gpsnow.com/garmin_zumo_450.htm

My next GPS might be a Zumo.

Yes, that is definitely INCORRECT information.
