Warning--with photo--about the new Garmin friction mount

I saw the silicone bottom on it and got rid of it.

I figured that would happen and didn't even use it. I decided to stick with the original.

Keep the old one

It seems like $15 for the old one was even better value than we thought!

Glad I have the older model

Thanks for the heads-up on this potential problem. I am now even happier than before about my $15.00 Garmin beanbag mount. Before my latest purchase I used a knock-off brand for nearly a year without any problems.

Newer isn't always better

I am glad I picked up the older style for $15. I just got back from a long weekend trip and it worked great. Even in the hot sun.

So Happy!

I saw the posts about 2 weeks ago about the 'old style' being on sale for $15, and made my purchase thinking 'cheaper is better than newer' for me right now. Now I am REALLY happy I did!

The new one looks nicer to me

New dash?

I wonder if it was the mount or a new dash out gassing.

A lot of gas... LOL

It is not the off gassing of the dash, it is the mount. Product is of lesser quality due to cutting cost of manufacturing.

This came to me from a Garmin rep.

Wrong?

Nothing wrong with the old one. Why the upgrade?

Thanks for the heads up

Thanks for sharing this link!

Just when ....

... I was about to buy it on sale, I am glad I saw this post. I guess I will put out the extra money for the bean bag.
The bean bag worked really well when I used one with the Rental Car

may I ask

How long was it on the dash? I alway remove mine after every use.

Good to know. I was thinking of purchasing one of these mounts.

Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the information. Now I am glad I put off buying one.

Really no big deal.

That is really no big deal. My beanbag mount (arkon I believe...not Garmin which wouldn't stay on my dashboard) does that too. I treat my dash with 303 Aerospace Protectant anyway and a quick wipe removes the mark. I think that rather than leaving something, it pulls the treatment out of the plastic, but 303 fixes it right up and is good UV protectant for the dash anyway.

Thanks for the link, nice to know about these stuff.

Left on Dash, in the sun for a few days...

Even when parked?

I take mine off the dash when I park - not had any dash-gunk...

Until today... forgot to pluck it off the dash - and in less than an hour, had some cleaning to do.

Quite happy with original friction mount...

and saw no reason to "upgrade". Now I'm glad that I didn't.

Converted to a vent mount

I originally had the bean bag and really liked it. Then I saw there were various types of vent mount kits. I bought one that worked perfectly in my vehicle. Gets the unit out of the way of viewing the road, easily accessible. and best of all can not be seen from the outside.

I kept and use the bean bag mount for car rentals.
