1mph Alerts - Nuvi 760

I've recently been annoyed by something my Nuvi 760 does. I'm constantly gettting 1mph and 2mph alerts while out driving the surface streets here in the LA area.

It SEEMS to often coincide with stop lights, but I gotta spend more time watching this close to see for sure....

so whjats that about?

.

It sounds like you have a POI file loaded that has a number (ie 1) in the file name.

Numerals in the file name are interpreted as speed alerts.

Change the file name and reload the POIs.

hmmm...i do

does that happen if the digit is ANYWHERE in the filename? only at the beginning? only at the end?

POI Loader Help

From the POI Loader Help file:

Speed information can be included in the file name or in the names of individual POIs within the file.

POI Loader determines speed information based on the following information, listed from highest to lowest priority:

1. Speed information included in the name of the individual Custom POI. For example, a POI named "SpeedZone@30" will have an alert speed of 30 regardless of the speed information specified in Manual mode or in the file name.

2. Speed information entered in Manual mode.

3. Speed information included in the file name. POI Loader interprets any numbers in the file name as speed information.

Never thought

Never thought to look i nthe POI loader help...figured i;'d have to dig out the manual...
thanks for the info

Change 1 to one

I got bit by this shortly after installing POI files. I think I got there by downloading a Walmart file into my POI folder that already had that file name it it so it appended a 1 to it. Then every time I got close to a Walmart I got a speed limit warning.

If you feel the need to have a number in your file name and don't want an alert, consider spelling out the number.

THANK YOU

I thought something was wrong with my POI files but I couldn't find it so I just turned off my POI alerts.

I numbered the POI file folder and I also numbered the route to be in the order I am going to use them while in Europe. I did not number the POI file but the 1mph 2mph 3mph etc. alerts on the simulator. Will have to play with it and see if it is alerting because of the number of the route or the number of the file folder.

For vacation I will leave the numbers but I now know what is causing the problem.

In your POI files, change to alphabetic for ordering, i.e. 1 to a, 2 to b. Name all of your files in this manner (as the first digit, and you should get the same effect

Exactly what i did for 2 poi files.

The down side to this is...i have a number of Geoaching.com pocket query gpx files i'd like to have on the gps. of course, the file names are all 6 digits...

I do have most of the geocaches in one called maincachefile.gpx...so its not a big deal to not have the raw gpx files onthere...
