Locations of Red Light Camera Intersections?

A few months ago there was talk of including the location of red light cameras in the alert i.e. RLC Main & 4th. I have looked from time to time but haven't seen it happen. Did I miss something?

Currently I know there is a camera somewhere ahead within 1/4 mile.

Jim

it is there

Download the current red light camera file and use the version with "beta" in it's name, you should see street addresses.

No word yet on when the beta part will be phased out.

Re: It Is There...

Hi Frovingslosh,

The Red light camera “beta” is my favorite and allows the user to see the address where the camera is located. IMHO a giant leap forward...

Looks like some work could be saved on upkeeping the files by just doing away with the other file and keeping the beta file.

The Plan

I think that is Miss POI's plan, once she is confident that it is working properly (no problems reported by us users).

I use the beta myself

I have no problems with it.

Beta ready for prime time

I have been using both versions and the beta version works fine. (Using both at same time results in many alerts, however, for the same intersection!)

Can You Tell Me Where the Beta File is?

Every time I click on Download I get only one red light camera file choice. The beta does not appear. Do you know how I can find it?

Jim

not sure what you are downloading

You should be downloading a zip file, which includes the old style red light camera file, the new style "beta" red light camera file and a speed camera file (so far the speed camera file has not been changes, only the red light file).

I Only Get a CSV File to Download

When I click on download the only choice is Redlight-Cameras.csv, no zip file.

Jim

very very strange

Are you a normal POI factory user who has access to the files due to activity over at least 5 weeks? Perhaps something is different for paying subscribers, but for the "normal" POI factory user you should be getting a ZIP file.

Go here:
http://www.poi-factory.com/poifiles/us/red-light-cameras

On that page there should be a download button (it is just above the coverage map). I don't think it's there if you are not an active member. That download button should link to a ZIP file, not a CSV file.

I'll contact Miss POI. I

I'll contact Miss POI. I have been a frequent user, paying member, for months. The location you gave is where I have been downloading with no luck.

Thanks for the help.

Only csv files for me too!

It doesn't show up for me either...just csv files

How do you get access to the zip/address file?

I emailed Miss POI once and got it emailed but,I would like constant access to it being its updated once a week...

Just tried it with no

Just tried it with no problem. When you download it you get a zip file. After unzipping you will see three files.

Same here...zip file containing Redlight-Cameras, Redlight-Beta and Speed-Cameras.

"It's not where you start, but where you end up." Where am I and what am I doing in this hand basket?

same here

I also only get a page with a link to speed and redlight .csv files no zip or beta anywhere.

Only CSV for me.

The only option I get is CSV file. I started as a paying member but do have active status.

Just wondering for those that can download as a zip file, what is the URL is when you click on download. Mine starts with poi-factory.com/payment/

seems unwise to post the URL

I suspect (as I alluded to in my previous post) that paying members may be treated differently. This may have started with the good intention of not experimenting on paying members with beta stuff, but sadly now seems to be restricting you from the more desirable form of the file.

I don't know if it would be wise to post the URL of the zip file itself, as I don't know how this site restricts access to it. I certainly would not want to post the url if all one needs is the actual url to get the file, as that would defeat what Miss POI is trying to do. And if there is better security and you need more than just the URL, then posting it would not get you the file anyway. It is a poi-factory URL, but that is all I'm prepared to say.

?

For those of us who did NOT start off paying, suffice it to say, the word "payment" does not appear in the URL. Is it safe to assume that although you currently have active status that you must be still within the payment period as well?

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

When was that...?

If it is superior to the alternative, why are they set to dump it?

My sub expires 07/03/09 so it looks like paying members don't have access to the beta file.

First Attempt to use Beta

Gary A wrote:

I got a problem with the Beta. Extracted Redlight-Beta.csv from the ZIP. I renamed it to Redlight-Camera.csv to match Redlight-Camera.MP3 and Redlight-Camera.BMP files.

Then I ran POI Loader. First run is to clean up existing POI (it's become a force of habit to run it twice). Second run is to load the above file. The result:

- When I switch on Nuvi, it doesn't ask me if I want to install new Extras to GPS device despite the fact that I put the POI in SD card

- Proximity Points does not show Proximity Alerts (only TourGuide shows up in there)

- Where to, Extras does not show Custom POIs (Historic Route 66 is there)

So I wiped out the beta and reloaded the original Redlight-Camera.csv. It's back to normal now. I'm too lazy to retry loading the beta at this time. Maybe tomorrow.

Me too

I used the beta version. It give me the idea on the exact street intersection of the red light camera

Beta

It is good to have the street intersections for the red light file. In the past I did this to make a local area file for the red light cameras in my driving domain. I like the beta and would like to see it evolve into the primary RLC POI.

Not sure what happened yesterday. I got the Beta loaded on the second attempt.
