Best .jpeg size for photo

All preloaded pictures in my 750 have 480x232 resolution, so that's what I use.

My 760 preloaded JPGs resolutions are different. They're as follows:

Garmin_Asia 320 x 213 pixels
Garmin_Europe 320 x 240 pixels
Garmin_USA 370 x 127 pixels
Image 1.jpg 480 x 232 pixels
etc

Nuvi specs shows:
Display: 4.3" diagonal, 480 x 272 pixels

I guess the highest possible resolution is 480 x 272 pixels. You may be able to go higher but it'll be scaled down to fit the display.

You should be able to determine the screen size for any GPS. Using that will give you the best picture that the GPS is capable of, using anything smaller will either degrade the picture or not use the full display (it degrades the picture on my unit). If you have the capability to zoom in on a picture, you may indeed want to use a larger picture (I like using 2x the screen size in both directions). The GPS will still display the same quality image at normal display size, but when you zoom in the display will stay sharp, not start showing larger pixels. If you choose to do this the choice of the final size to use would depend on how large the SD card is and how many pictures you want to store as well as how far you want to be able to zoom in before seeing the pixels start becoming blocky.

Using larger pictures than the display size also gives you an easy way to carry around your favorite pictures and have them handy for other uses, such as downloading to a friend's computer, digital picture frame, or other device. So while you can get the most pictures on any SD card (of the nuvi internal memory) at screen resolution, you may indeed find it worth while to carry around a somewhat larger picture and let the GPS scale it down for GPS viewing.
