Garman 350 - Slow Bootup

confused My Garman 350 is 2+ years old. Recently, I noticed it took much longer to boot the 350 up (from pressing the "on/off" button to the appearance of the "Agree" button on the screen) . In addition, it also takes much longer for the unit to find the necessary number of satellite connections. Any suggestions?

Was your 350 off for extended time, if so it probably had to get satelite info before calculating location. I ran into this after getting off a plane in another city. The GPS had taken about 10 minutes to find where it was.

Slow Bootup

I have Garmin 670 and if I don`t turn it for some time ( example a week ) I can see that takes longer to be ready to navigate.

I tried to let the gps proceed its normal course to get ready to navigate and it took some times 10 minuets

What I do is turn the gps on and after it starts to look for the satellites I turn off and on this way seems to acquire the satellites faster.

I did this many times even when I am downtown and seems to work for me. Maybe it does not make a difference, but I did it anyway.
Play with your unit and you will learn many ways to work with it much better.

Gps! ask where to go and get there! Best of all, what we need is to have accurate pois to reach all destinations

I posted about this recently as well...

...with my 350 not booting up very fast. Even when I've used it going somewhere, and an hour later I use it to go somewhere else, it's taking about 10 minutes to find satellites vs. 1-2 minutes in the past. I checked the software and it's the latest available. I was wondering if it being a discontinued model, and no longer supported, something has changed in the satellite system that a lack of updates is creating difficulties over.

Hope it doesn't get any worse.

Do you have alot of POI's or

Do you have alot of POI's or apps in it? It may cause it to slow down on the boot.

No. I have very little compared to most people...

...in this group. And it's been a constant for years. I have maybe 500 mb of MP3 files, and about 6000 POI's all together and that's it. This is all about signal acquisition times being very slow.

Well, part of some of the posts seem to indicate that the unit was slow in starting up. This can be attributed sometimes to having a large number of MP3 files in a single folder. Spreading them out so that there is no more than about 20 songs per folder will significantly increase the unit startup time before it loads the maps.

slow boot up

I have boot up problems also with my c330. I don't know if its the older technology or if I'm in a dead zone. My nuvi boots up much faster.

Collect the sat data, and you should be fine

The technology with your streetpilot is just fine, you just need to re-acquire the almanac data.

Park your car with your GPSr looking at an open spot (no trees or obstuctions)for 20 minutes sitting motionless. You can also tell that you need to do this while driving and the roads are not quit synced.

Discontinued models don`t make a difference

I have a garmin 670 which is a discontinued model I don`t see the difference in acquiring the satellites. I have 1GB of MP3 files, I have 90.000 pois, I have some photos, and I can tell you that does not take that long to acquire sats.

boot up time

that's one thing i wish garmin would improve on, boot up time as well as the time it takes to establish a signal.

Garman 350 - Slow Bootu

HI! How do I find the numbers and the names of the MP3 folders in my Garman 350 GPS? I originally downloaded the songs from my computer. After I turned on my Garman and tapped the "MP3 Player" under "Travel Lit" and then tapped "Browse" , there are 4 items I can choose from: 1. All, 2. Album, 3. Artist, 3. Genre. These 4 items probably inherited from my computer's software probably from RealPlayer or iTune. But I'm not sure how do the file folders relate to these 4 items or the MP3 files. Thanks for any suggestions!

ID3 Tags

POINovice - the album, artist and genre info is contained in what's called an id3 tag. It is information within the mp3 file itself. You can modify the id3 tags using iTunes. There are also free id3 tag editors you can use. I personally use MediaMonkey.

Garman 350 - Slow Bootup & Sattelite Aquisition

I have a 2 year old NUVI 350 and I kept up with the firmware updates, now Version 6.00, Audio version 1.5, and GPS SW Versio 3.0. I also updated the map to City Navigator North Ameraca NT 2009. For system settings I keep WAAS/EGNOS on, which is supposed to make sattelite aquisition faster. Typical aquisition time is less than a minute, and rarely over 2 minutes.

I recommend updating your firmware and setting WAAS/EGNOS to ON.

Hope this helps.

Got to try that...a few times I have encountered roads switching shortly after powering it up from a store lot.
