Combine .csv files?

I it possible to take 2 .csv files and open them with Excel and combine the 2 files into one and still upload and be functional on a Nuvi 680?

For instance, I'd like to combine the national parks POI file with the national monuments POI file.

Maybe a dumb question, but I am new to custom POI's even though I've had my Nuvi for almost 2 years now.

Thanks all...wonderful website!!

Uhm why?

Why would you want to do this? POILoader combines all you .csv files into a single file anyway. But yes, it can be done quite easily using Excel. Just open one file, copy the contents to the clipboard. Close the file and open the second. Go to the last record (line) and then paste the clipboard with the column A cell highlighted.

yes

you can combine both files, just make sure the categories match.

Thanks!

I just checked "manual" instead of express on POI loader and discovered exactly what you suggested!

Maybe not such a dumb question as a premature one...

understand what these files are

.csv files are NOT Excel files, they are simple text files that Excel happens to be able to open and read. Actually, Excel can open any text file, but because these files contain fields of data separated by commas, Excel (and other spread sheets like the free Open Office software) can open them and split them into columns (csv stands for comma separated vectors or comma separated values depending on who you quote). So you could combine csv files with a simple text editor, or even with the DOS copy command to concatenate two files together. There is, however, usually no need or reason to do this and it is generally better just keep the files separate and load them all with POI loader. If you have any valid reason why you might need to combine multiple csv files then you already likely understand how to do it.
