109 mph in a 65 mph zone???

Ah, the nefarious speed cameras at work again. What good are wide open spaces if you can't make use of them?

My question is, "What good

My question is, "What good are traffic laws, if people completely ignore them?" 109 mph in a 65 zone is really pushing the envelope.

Wide Open Spaces?

From what I read, he was on the freeway in Glendale, Arizona - that's not really "wide open spaces".

max speed

109 mph in a 65 mph zone???

Executive director of the Arizona Republican Party was charged with reckless driving and criminal speeding. I myself have no problem with that at all.

Wide open spaces? Take a look for yourself.

My max speed on my GPS is 317kph (on land, not in the air) but then I am not as stupid as some - I had a very responsible driver in a very safe vehicle (Eurostar train from Paris to London razz )

Trying to match that or anything like it on the highway will get you (or worse - someone else) 0kph at 6 feet under.

What an idiot!!!!

Hope he gets what he deserves....jail time and a huge fine....

veyron

what about the veyron in the gumball that was doing 171 in a 75 in texas

Bugatti Veyron

2 Veyrons one black and one gold, were impounded for doing 175mph in a 75mph zone and the drivers jailed, missing the Dallas check point while running the Gumball 3000 Rally. This rally is very dangerous and very fast, it attracts the like of David ‘The Hoff’ Hasselhoff to Jackass’s Bam Margera and Ryan Dunn in a custom BMW; next to action sports legends Tony Hawk, Danny Kass, and Dave Mirra in tricked out Jeeps, Chevy Trucks and Porsches; alongside Cypress Hill’s DJ Muggs, British indie stars The Enemy, MTV’s Dirty Sanchez, the hilarious Cuban Brothers and the fire-breathing Fuel Girls together with vintage rocker Lemmy from Motörhead and Avenged Sevenfold. Driving such power as Bugatti Veyrons, Lamborghini’s to Low Riders and classic American muscle cars.

With regard to the speed, I

With regard to the speed, I wonder how accurate that reading is. There have been cases where speed cameras registered very high speeds on vehicles that were not even capable of doing those speeds.

Hmmmmmm

There was the case of the young man in England, I believe, who was ticketed for the equivalent of 95 mph in his old beater. He had to hire some people and take the car to a track or somethig to prove his car couldn't even go that fast. I think there was a link form POI Factory, but it was a while back.

Charges dropped for the politician? Who'd have thunk it??? mad

Some people are idiots.

Some people are idiots.

if the road is open

go for it. If your car can handle it and you don't mind the risk of hefty fines, so long as there are no cars around you, I wouldn't think it crazy to go fast.

On 2-3 lane highways, if I find an empty stretch, I'll push it to 130 or so, but make sure no one is around. You simply do not know how other drivers will react to someone flying by them.

Once in a while, i will have someone in another sports car try and engage in a race, when that happens, I just back off and go slow. No reason to encourage them or participate, since I get my thrills of racing with others @ the track.

BUT - and this is a big one, I regularly take my car to closed tracks, with inspections to make sure it can handle the high speed, and also to know/understand how the car will handle under such conditions. You need to be aware of many things, such as breaking distance being dramatically changed at high speed.

On a closed course, I've taken my car up to pretty crazy speeds, just over 210 according to my Garmin, which sounds somewhat right since at the time my speedometer was pegged to its max (190 mph).

Temporary road user?

Keep to the track and then you really do only have yourself to blame if you end up 6 feet under. No matter how hard you try the "open" road is not guaranteed to be "open". Then you (and far worse) someone else will end up 6 feet under.
