Best Beanbag by far for Nuvi. EVER!!

I happened into a Best Buy one evening with $40.00 burning a hole in my already shabby Dockers.
Had trouble with my Garmin Beanbag sliping of my dashboard, and I also know that it was touted as the next best thing to the Nuvi itself. While standing with my wife open mouthed, I spy'd a round object looking very much like my old trusty, but sometimes slippery Garmin beanbag. I bought it, and have used it constantly which turned out to be a wise move!
This "beanbag" will NEVER slide, even on hairpin curves, and grips like glue! Sorry, can't remember the name of it, but it has a semi-clear rubber backing that once put in place NEVER shifts, even on my leather dash!! The thing sells for about 40.00, and is a black satin finish.
I recommend the thing very highly, and would/could not do without it..
Hmm.. Think you can find us
Hmm.. Think you can find us a picture of it online? Or even take a picture of yours? That will make it easier for us to identify the make/model. I've been looking for a good dash mount for my nuvi. I hope this one is it!
Please let us know!
Which one?

I looked at the BestBuy website and saw 2 that might be like yours.
Bracketron - Nav-Mat Dash Pad for Portable GPS Receivers $41.99
Griffin - Day Tripper Dashboard GripMat Mount for Select GPS $39.99
Both appear similar from the pics. Suction cup windshield mount sticks to disk in center. Weighted beanbag appears to form a ring around the disk. The Griffin appears to have 4 separate weight areas while the Bracketron looks like a complete ring.

Nothing beats Garmins mount
Those Round ones..you need to use the Suction mount to stick to it...then it comes loose. I would much rather use Garmin's with the Ball mount right on the bag. I drive pretty quick in my VW Rabbit...and it stays Put...the trick is No armorall on the dash and kep the back clean.

The only problem I have had with the Garmin Bean-bag
The only problem I had with the Garmin Bean-Bag mount is when I tried to put it on the dash of my daughter's car. Once we cleaned the layer of dust off and wiped the pad, it stuck like it was supposed to.

I bought one of the round
I bought one of the round bean bags from BestBuy and have been happy with it ever since. I just looked at the unit and couldn't find a name or model number to give you. I believe it was about $39 but they had them on sale for $20 the day I was in the store and couldn't pass it up. I have to admit, though, that when I got it out of the store and put it on my dash for the first time it slid right off at the first turn I made. I was upset and ready to head right back and return it until I ready the packaging and it said to remove the paper backing on the bottom of the unit to remove the "sticky" (my words not theirs) side. of course, as soon as I did that the unit worked just fine and it hasn't ever moved when I've used it.
I like it because I can now put my GPS either in the center or in the corner of the drivers side.

You are spot on, the Armorall does cause some slippage. I left my beanbag on the dash, put a bag over it and sprayed around and no worries now.
Best Beanbag by far for Nuvi. EVER!!
I am hoping to get a Garmin Nuvi 500 soon, so I may need to get one of the bean bag mounts. If anybody has any URLs, please post them.
Windscreen Mount question
Can someone (in the USA) tell me why you like Beanbag mounts?
Are Windscreen mounts (like https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8127) not legal? (somewhere - everywhere?)
Thanks
Two Reasons
1. Quickly move the GPS between vehicles.
2. Does not leave the tell-tale suction cup ring on the windshield tipping off a would-be thief that there is a GPS unit in the car to steal.

I myself use suction mounts exclusively, I have one in each car. Windshield suction cup mounts have problems in the USA in two states.
California vc26708has made modifications to the law, now letting people use them only in the lower right or left corners of the windshield, most Californians don't like that law either so use the bean bag.

nuvi vs. aftermarket beanbags
Having both purchased and used nuvi beanbag and 2 aftermarket beanbags here are my 2 cents.
Pros with nuvi beanbag is that the mounting bracket is securely mounted to the beanbag via friction / locking device and will not come off (other than sliding on dash).
Aftermarket beanbag issues are that the suction cup meant for the windshield will come off the base of the beanbag, unless you permanently secure it via the suction with help of superglue.
Aftermarket beanbags have various bases for staying on the dash. The Mizmi beanbag has a clear silicone base that stays put. The bracketron has dark rubber base with dimples or texture to stay put.

armorall
"You are spot on, the Armorall does cause some slippage. I left my beanbag on the dash, put a bag over it and sprayed around and no worries now."
Just like the suction cup mark on windshield, the area without armorall could show signs to crooks that there is a gps in the car.

I have the garmin beanbag mount and have never had a problem with slippage. I like it b/c I can move it around depending on where I want it, left or right of me. If I have a passenger, the can put it on their lap, if needed, without dismantling anything.
just chimin' in
I too have a garmin bean bag and have not had any trouble with slippage. I have used it in several vehicles with no problems. I do wipe it down occasionally to keep dust from building up on the bottom. I think any bean bag device will slide if there's dust, aromor all, etc. on the dash in too high a quantity.

..however, I have had mine attached for at least a month, I have never had the suction cup come off yet! I even lift it up by the suction cup portion. I always moisten the suction cup, and they NEVER come off. I would rather use this new one with it's unslipable feature, than worry about the possibility of "rounding" a corner, and having the beanbag slide ungracefully, garmin attached, to the car's floor. I guess it's what you think suits you the best...for me, it's the new beanbag, AND I might add, it's much heavier than the Garmin,to boot!

I also have two of the Garmin brand, but in my eyes, this is superior to the Garmin BB.

i have NO negitives with the Garmin beanbag
Some problems
I also have the Garmin beanbag. I also do a lot of traveling for my company and thus spend a lot of times in Rental Cars. The majority of the time, the beanbag works great. However if the car has had its dash cleaned recently or if it is a very cheap plastic dash (I did not say my company splurges on me!), the beanbag will have a tendency to slide. I am not sure that any non-attached stand will overcome those type of problems.

Slippery beanbag??
I also have the original Garmin beanbag for the Nuvi and don't ever remember it slipping or sliding. But I never use Armorall on my dash. Instead of Armorall, try wiping your dashboard with a mix of Coca-Cola and coffee, so it looks like my dashboard, and then you won't need to spend another $40 on another beanbag. The original Garmin will stay put just fine!

Is this a new home made cleaning solution?
Besides having your beanbag stick, do you also attract flies?
Garmin Beanbag Slippage
My Garmin Beanbag mount slips from time to time. When I take it off the dash I set it on the floor near the center of the vehicle. After a while, the pad collects dust and such from the carpet on the floor. (I don't vacuum the car often.........). When the thing gets dirty it slips on the dash. I just wash the bottom of it and wipe off the dash and it works fine again. As long as you keep it clean it shouldn't slip.

Very interesting solution!
I think on my Volvo S80 Twin Turbo T6 light gray dash, the $40.00 I've spent on this new beanbag, might just be worth it, wouldn't you think?

Maybe in your case you could
Maybe in your case you could substitute Earl Grey tea for the coffee component?
These are good
I use these Bracketron UFM-100BL Nav-Mat GPS Friction Dash Pad ,got them at Amazon for $14 shipping is about $5-$6. They are sturdy and don't move around at all.
Garmin BB
I have had my Garmin bean bag for over 1 1/2 years and used it in three different cars...never once has it slipped and have never had to clean the bottom. If you store it properly when not being used and clean your dash occasionally how does the BB get so dirty to make it slip??? Quit using armor all is one of the tricks. Use a good leather/vinyl cleaner...
Bobby....Garmin 2450LM
How does it work?
I just looked on Best Buy website abd they are on sale for $25. I have never used one and have tried to imagine how it works, so from looking at the picture, and reading the posts, I am assuming that the suction cup sticks tp the round area in the middle and the bad sits on the dashboard and stays via the silicone pad on bottom. Is this close or did I assume too much?

Wish my Garmin BB stayed put. Last two times out I've thrown it into my passenger's lap. Guess I drive a bit harder than others.
