Last Position

Noticed this the other day driving home and I went into my favorites to check something and saw the Last Position was my home address and not the last place where I had taken the unit of the cradle.

So this morning, after I got to work I took the 760 out of the cradle and turned it off then turned it back on and checked my favorites and the last position was correct. Fast forward to the end of the day and I put the unit back in the cradle and went to my favorites and the last position again was my house.

Just wondering if the unit remembers the last 2 positions somehow. I am going to check again tomorrow.

Last Position(s)

I could be wrong, but I believe you’ve got to remove the last position from your favorites. It’s sort of like every other favorite, it’ll stay there until you remove it.

Figured it out. Somehow I

Figured it out. Somehow I had a favorite named "Last Position." at my home which made it appear that it was saving more than one "Last Position"

Must have happened when I was readding the favorites to the GPS from GeePeeEx Editor after deleting them all off the unit.

No, it removes itself.

That is incorrect, it will remove itself.

.

Most of the time it *will* remove/delete itself but I've seen instances where it does NOT and the unit will create a "Last Position 1" favorite without deleting the original "Last Position" favorite. I have not been able to pinpoint when or why it does this but I have seen it first-hand.

Thinking about it a bit, it may be creating "Last Position 1" without deleting "Last Position" if you move the unit to a new position while turned off, then attach, power on and then remove the unit from the cradle again...

Example:

1. I come home from work and remove the unit from the cradle while powered on..."Last Position" is created.

2. I go to work the next day but before leaving, I do not attach the unit to the cradle nor power it on until I get there. When I do, I then power on/attach the unit to the cradle, then remove the unit from the cradle while powered on. This is where I *think* "Last Position 1" is being created.

Well, I tested out my theory but did not get a "Last Position 1". I have seen it many times though, but cannot pinpoint the exact circumstances that causes it to be created... confused

"POIName 1" is a duplicate

If you are using any of the available software programs to edit Favorites and POIs like GeePeeEx and others, the Nuvi will rename any duplicate in your Favorites by adding a number to it.

So if you export your favorites, edit them and then import them back to the Nuvi, they will not overwrite the original Favorites. The Nuvi will then display things like "Home" and "Home 1". It's not the fault of the editing software, it's just the way the import/export software in the Nuvi works when dealing with Favorites. The Nuvi allows duplicate names in Custom POI's but it does not allow duplicates in Favorites.

The Nuvi is smart enough to automatically delete the "Last Position" Favorite every time it updates it. But it ignores "Last Position 1" because that is a different name. You'll have to manually delete it yourself.

Correct johnc

Exactly correct. They are created by editing it in software and then reloading back into your Garmin.

Last position

Can anyone tell me why my Nuvi 760 does not create a last position. I have followd the instructions to a T. Remove the unit from the cradle while it is still running, turn off, or let it time out, turn it back on, look in favourite, nothing. Look in Recent destinations, Nothing. Is my Nuvi 760 the only one that does not do this???

Regards JVB

First, do not turn it off.

First, do not turn it off. Let it turn off on it's own. Then look in Favorites, it should be there at the top of the list.

My 760 creates Last Position

I'm not sure what is causing your problem, but my 760 has always created a Last Position when I have removed it from it's mount while it was still turned on. Doesn't matter if I turn it off or answer Yes to the Power Off? question. It's still there when I turn it back on.

What may be happening is that you turn your ignition off first, and then remove it from the mount. If your Nuvi is plugged into a switched outlet, the power will be cut before you take it out of the mount. It might not work that way.

Don't turn it off

I have tried both ways still no last position. IE, I have removed it from the cradle and let it time out, and I have removed it from the cradle and turned it off.

My 760 creates Last Position

No I have removed it from the cradle while the motor is still running...

.

Have you tried this at multiple locations, where you have a clear view of the sky when you remove it from the cradle?

Other than that, perhaps it's something different about the Australian 760?? What is your current software version? (Tools, Settings, System, About)

If you figure it out, let us know

I don't actually care for that feature, so if you figure out what turned it off, I will probably do likewise. grin

Have you done a full reset? Just like a computer, sometimes problems go away after a full reset.

I have figured it out

First off I would like to thank you all for your comments, it is good to know that there are people out there with the same interests that are so willing to help

Problem solved ! I do not believe that I have had my NUVI 760 for over six months and this problem has been a mystery to me. The day I decide to get help and ask the question in your forum, I stumble on the remedy. The problem was in the cradle. When I went out to the car to try it one more time I had a good look at the cradle and found that it had a bent pin. Number 0ne pin counting from left to right as you look at it, is obviously the pin that causes it to mark the last position. Sraightened the pin and walla, it works. That pin must have been bent from day one because it has never done the right thing.

Once again thank you all

JVB Joe

Wow! Garmin should hire you...
