POI do not show on map

I downloaded a couple of Rest Area POI files and after installation on my GPS (TomTom One 3rd Ed) the symbols would not show on the map. I opened one of the files with an on-line POI editor, re-saved it, and reloaded the new file to the GPS. Now it works! I just got my GPS and updated the app to App 8.010 and loaded the latest US-Canada map. So it may be that they have changed the software so that older format POI files no longer work.

thanks

Thanks for this tip. I'm trying to help get my nephew's TomTom One set up with some POI's and for some reason they didn't "load" properly. Coming from a Garmin world, the TomTom is a bit more work for loading the POI's.

Thanks to the forums here I found out about POIeditor and so now my fingers are crossed that everything will work for him.

More of the same

I downloaded several more .ov2 POI files and none of them worked as downloaded. Opening the files and saving them with either the gps-data-team on-line editor or with POIedit corrects the problem. Am I (and Mark) the only one having this problem?

Are they really ov2 files?

Since you are able to get them to work after converting them to ov2 files using POIedit, I wonder if they are really in the ov2 format to begin with.

What file have you had a problem with? I'll try it on my GO 930 and see what happens.

Look like ov2

Here are a few that did not work.

RestAreasCombined(Ver[1].L).ov2
Mcdonalds_USA.ov2
Wendys_Restaurants.ov2

I suspect that the problem is related to my having the most recent update for the GPS, App 8.010. I have looked at the files before and after resaving them and they are basicly the same format. In fact after the first record, the files are almost identical. The reformatted files (the ones that work) either have the first record removed, or greatly modified. The rest of the file is about the same. I do not know the purpose of that first record, but it is not a POI record. The POI records all begin with hex 02 and the first record is hex 01.

Not Sure...

charliepar, I have the rest area and McDonald's POIs loaded. Additionally, my GO 930 already has the Wendy's brand logo, so I am not sure if that worked or not.

I did try loading the non-chain Mexican food restaurants, Mexican_Restaurants.ov2 (I've been meaning to do this for awhile since I offered up some places). It seems to work. I have a new POI category called Mexican Restaurants with no icon (I did not load one).

Something unusual is that when I search for a Mexican Restaurant in Fort Worth, it gives me a "None Found" response. However, if I search for a Mexican Restaurant under "POI Near Home" then I see several.

Sooooo, I think it is working. rolleyes
