Help,,, I have no Idea how to do this. Can you please tell me how to get the ICON on to my desktop so I can download it my TomToms. I am the Chief of a Fire Company in Jersey and would like to identify all my Fire Hydrants, using a Fire Hydrant as the ICON vs. a red dot. I found the ICON on the Web Site,,, but I don't know where I'm supposed to put it,,, and then how do I get it on the TomTom... Helpppppppp....
Try This:
TomTom POI files are xxx.ov2.
Find your custom category file name, like fire_hydrant.ov2. Your icon (or bitmap) associated with that file will need to be called fire_hydrant.bmp and it will show up with the poi on the map.
The .bmp file, along with the .ov2 file, goes directly in the map folder, e.g. North_America.
There is a size limitation, although I do not know the precise specification. However, the largest I've seen in my folder is 1.75 KB. Also, they do not have to be square, but I find 22x22 works, and have seen 24x24.
You might need to shut down and reboot before it shows up.

I see two locations where I can put the files... one is a ZIP file and one is a regular file dirrectory.
The locations
\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\FromDevice\Fire_hydrants.zip
and the other one is
\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Backup\ONE XL\Backup01\InternalMemory\USA_andCanada
I'm assuming that I should put the bmp file in the Backup01 and then do a "restore"...??? Sorry,,, I'm kind of lost on this....
Also where can I get the ov2. Editor.... Thanks...

On my GO 930, they are under "North_America". From your description, I would guess they would need to go under "USA_andCanada".
There are several POI editors, one is POIEDIT that you can download at www.poiedit.com.
