No Way Around It
Made it back to VA safetly.Lots of work going on on I95.Lots of delays.Must be the stimulus money at work.
Where abouts in VA? 95 is my least favorite route above South Carolina.
Chesapeake VA close to Va Beach,Norfolk and Suffolk.
Short of coming through the woods on 17, there isn't much way to avoid 95.

So far, what I have seen and learned about POI's is exciting and will be a great addition to our summer travels. We like to find all the railroad - prototype running and dead, and model - locations as we travel mostly in the Western States. I will not be surprised to find a file of Railroad POI's and maybe I can add to them. I need a little learning first. I am a retired mining engineer so if there is need for locating some interesting mining locations, just ask.
I think the biggest problem you will have in using this site is that you can never leave. It's like a wart - it just grows on you and then ends up sucking all the time out of the clock. So be afraid, very afraid. You don't know what you are getting into. Oh, welcome to the POI-Factory.

Haven't driven I-95
I make several trips a year to Northern, VA , Upstate NY, New England. I haven't driven I-95 ABOVE Fredericksburg, VA for about 5 years.
This OLD retired person can afford an extra 30-60 minutes of driving (out of 20 hours) to avoid I-95 in Wash, Md, Del, and NJ Tpk. like the plague.
Plus you avoid quite a bit of toll $$$$$$$.
Our most used is I-95N to US-17N in Fredericksburg, then I-66 West to I-81N. Then branch off from there !

Irritates me
Before Sirius bought out XM Radio I could listen to the races while traveling without hunting all over the radio dial.
Now they only supply it to you if you have an added subscription capability.
Listening to the races while driving broke up the monotony of the drive. Oh well, now I'll just have to listen to "Rest Area Ahead" and "Possible Speed Trap Ahead"

Never Having To Ask For Directions
...is worth it's weight in gold. I've had to travel to a lot of locations unknown to me in the past several weeks and even though my Garmin routes me weird sometimes, and it doesn't replace paper maps totally, once it's in the cities, it's directions are very good. I can't always carry maps for everywhere I travel.
Saves me a lot of anxiety when I don't have my wife in the car or someone I make ask for directions! Gawd forbid I'd have to do it.

I carry fewer maps today. Basically just an atlas and that's all. I drive tour buses so I have a suitcase full of maps.

Still in a drought. We need rain. The pond next to our house is almost dried up. In the 6 years we've lived here, its never done that before. Lawn watering once a week... in some communities, no watering. Can't wash your car, or pressure clean anything. Bad, bad, bad!
