Doe anyone know of any data that would suggest redlight cameras cause accidents? I am back working in Chicago and they are all over the place! And I find myself accelerating through them if I think it is a stale green or jammin on the brakes at the 1st sight of yellow conveniently relocating everything in my car from the seat to the floor! This is really getting anoying!
You could Google
Results 1 - 30 of about 116,000 for red light camera accident statistics.
Should keep you off the strets at night.

Red Light Accidents
I have not seen any accidents in Staten Island with the red light cameras installed. I travel all the time, as I am retired, and have not seen one.

Causes accidents
I doubt you'll find that there's any increase and probably some decrease in accidents where the cameras are installed. The problem is that the way they use (generally) and apply the enforcement, the "safety" value is watered down greatly (i.e. ticket shows up in the mail a month after the offense).
Red Light Safety Myth
DrewDT great website. Nice article on the "Safety Myth" of the redlight camera's. It is just one more way for uncle sam to tap into our pockets. Just like the toll roads here in Illinois were only to be up to pay for the road! Gues what that road has been paid for about 10 times over now and the toll booths are still up. How is it up win WI they have free roads and they manage to keep them in better shape? In Illinois the roads are all crap and we work on them every year? 2 driving sasons here. Winter and Construction. We can never have a nice drive.
Good info
Thanks!

Thanks for the info. Sorry I responded so late.
That's interesting question
Soon they will show huge decrease in number of accidents. And it will go like this:
..."[The budget will] increase the Law Enforcement Motor Vehicle Accident Report threshold from $1000 to $3000 and eliminate the requirement that motorists also file accident reports," Patterson's proposal states. With fewer reports, the new statistics will show fewer accidents in the "after" period, even if the actual number of collisions remains unchanged.
