Didn't check for changes listed

But downloaded MapSource software version 6.15.6 and it ran fine - no problems with me making changes to our upcoming EXTENDED road trip thru 24 states.

No Problem

I also just downloaded and installed this new MapSource version with no problem.

Can't speak to any of the listed changes, however. Heck, I just got MapSource for the first time ever a week or so ago and have no idea how to use it or what its good for. I need to take some time and play around with it.

Thanks for the heads up on Map Source

Thanks for the heads up on Mapsource. Did the download with no problems. I have checked the magic boxes at Garmin for info on maps to be sent to me; however, I have never received an email from them.

Looking at the list of changes . . .

it seems the fixes to waypoint categories and icon sizing are worth the download. Resizing the waypoint icons has always been a problem with the version I have now. And the waypoint category issue (not working) was just discussed in a forum last week.

Thanks, Guess I will download it.

Are there map updates in Mapsource? I thought they were only in the actual map downloads?

The map data updates and the MapSource program updates are two separate and different things. MapSource is the program shell in which the map data resides.

Thanks, that's what I

Thanks, that's what I thought. I was confused for a little by reference to new map data in a Mapsource thread. Nice to know some of the grey cells survived.

Custom Waypoints

Mapsource 6.15.6 Special version

I don't know if anyone else is interested but here is a link to a patched version of the mapsource 6.15.6 executable I came across which allows you to save your IMG files to any hard drive on your PC not just the GPS or a data card. I think Garmin should make it standard!

It's a handy and FAST way to build and save any custom map IMG collections you might want for future trips if you can't or don't want to use a data card, or have very limited memory as in many GPS models.

MapSource 6.15.6 Special Version

Hi Frank.

Thanks for the link.

Any idea who wrote this special version ( the source).

Obviously this person is very talented and it would be great to be able to pick their knowledgable brain about this modified version and other things.

No, I don't know who did the work but he's been offering doing this for about the last 3 versions. Usually they show up on the web a few days after the garnin release.
