Garmin Nuvi - Request Memory Size by Model

I have a Nuvi 200 and I am very happy with it. However, I found out after a map update that I have the version with only 1 GB of internal memory.

I am looking to purchase an additional Nuvi and do not want to make the same (small memory size) mistake.

Does someone know where I can find a chart that compares the internal memory sizes of the different Nuvi model numbers?

.

I don't know where you can find such a chart. I know the easily viewable specs on the Garmin site don't even mention the size of the internal memory. I believe that is because they don't see it as being very important. With flash memory cards at such low prices, you can easily add all the memory you could ever use. I see very little advantage to having a large amount of internal memory.

I have a Nuvi 200 and have added a 4 GB card to it.
It maybe overkill but have that card loaded with all sorts of POI's might want some day down the road.

Nuvi 760, 765, 880, 885 all

Nuvi 760, 765, 880, 885 all have 4GB of internal memory. After all the map update, extra POI, I have over 1GB free, if not almost 2GB.

Transatlantic models

I believe that the newer (and upcoming) models that feature transatlantic maps (N America & Europe) are 8 GB units. These are the nuvi 775T, 275T and 1370T.

Thanks DorkusNimrod.

It is a fact that the amount of internal memory is different between units of the same series. You would think that it would be the same with units that are billed as the "same" except for the maps..... such as the 765, 775, 785.

But I learned that there is a difference... at least for the Oregon Handheld units.

It was like pulling teeth to get the info from Garmin but I did finally get this apparent super secret info.

You would assume that ALL of the Oregon 400 units were the same except for the maps. The 400t is a TOPO unit, the 400c is a water/navigational unit, and the 400i is also a water unit but has inland lakes loaded on it.

Surprisingly the 400t has 4GB, the 400c has 2GB and the 400i has only 1 GB. I would say obviously you want a unit with the largest amount of built-in, factory internal memory.

So don't assume they are all the same.... because for sure, they aren't.

It would be nice to have people with the different units to hook them up the their compuiter and check the internal memory listed under the "Properties" menu.

Be sure not to confuse the built-in internal memory with any memory cards you have installed.

Mem on 260W

My unit shows about 2Gig total with 0.6Gig free. Firmware 4.60, maps City Nav NA NT 2009

Do you have any idea about the memory of the Nuvi 765, 775 & 785 ?

nuvi memory survey

I have recently learned that Garmin installs differing amounts of factory memory within the same series lineup of Oregon 400's.

The 400t has 4GB
The 400c has 2GB
The 400i has 1GB.

Now I question if there is a different amount of factory installed memory in the nuvi lineup with the same series too ?

It has been mentioned here that the nuvi series that had both the North American AND European maps had a larger amount of memory.

So... I now pose the same question and request.

Can some of you please check your internal memory next time you have your nuvi hooked up with the USB to your computer ?

I am interested in the amount of memory in the nuvi 765, 775 and 785 to see if they are the same.

This could be interesting.......

I had thought the price difference could be explained by the maps installed, but now I think it may also be because of the amount of memory installed at the factory.

Thanks.

Wrong size on the 760

That 760 must have been pimped out. My 760 internal memory is only 2GB.

I wonder if Garmin changed the amount of memory somewhere along the production runs ?

Hmmm... the mystery deepens.

770 has 4 GB

The 760 has 2 GB, the 770 (transatlantic maps) has 4 GB due to the North American & European mapsets preinstalled on the unit. If they indeed have a 4 GB 760, that's the first I've heard of it.

Seriously doubt it

Nuvi 760 is a 2007 model. I got mine in Dec 2008. I must have gotten one of the latest 760 before Garmin discontinued it. If they did change it, I would have gotten 4GB Nuvi 760.

Thanks for the valuable

Thanks for the valuable input. It appears that the memory card is the best method to ensure your nuvi has enough memory.

Interestingly enough Garmin

Interestingly enough Garmin has several discontinued models that will not take the full map sets recently released.

The 330C would not accept the full 2009 map set due to lack of memory/storage space.

So it is an important factor as the maps/features/pois continue to grow, unless Garmin continues to allow the SD card storage to be used.

Just my $0.02 worth...
