If that happens,

then I'll be out of business. I drive a lot of miles for my job, I average 350 per day. If I can't afford the gas, I can't work. Simple as that.

Scalable pricing vs mileage tax

The concept of a mileage tax I would not put past the current boneheads we have in office at present. But if done right and fairly assessed on basic economic factors of supply & demand (driver and merchant) scalable gas pricing can work. Although the gov't will find a way to screw that up too.

The big question is how do you assess and administer the fees? Some think that you can just download the data off a GPS device and calculate the fee when you stop for fuel. But what happens if you are on a trip and pass through 3 or 4 states? Who gets the fees and what portion goes to other states?

One trip I make fairly often is from the DC area to Indiana. If I fuel in MD and then again in Ohio, does MD, PA, and WV get any credit for the miles I drove in their states or does OH get it all?
