You have another copy of the same file loaded. If one copy was loaded to an SD card and another resides in the unit main memory, you will get hits on both.

pois

no ,only preloaded ones . i have a bunch of pois that i downloaded but havent loaded yet . have my new 255w and want to put them on a sd card .waiting for wife to get home from ny because my sd card was in her camera bag . just out of curiosity i typed in cracker barrel to see what happens . took a long time to load and the 2 locations showed up.

Where are you searching?

On the 2008 maps, I see two different listings for what is surely the same restaurant -- 1511 Riverboat and 1511 Humbolt (600 ft apart). If you are searching under Food (preloaded), I could easily believe that the 2009 maps might have changed Humbolt to Riverboat on the second set of coordinates.

Your custom POIs can only be found by searching under Extras. Certainly don't want to insult you, but many seem not to realize this.

search

no /where to /points of interest/ spell name .its not a drop dead issue , just trying to understand pois as i would like to utilize the 255w more than i did with my 650.
mike

Try this-- Where to/ food

Try this-- Where to/ food lodging/ food/ american/ spell/ cracker barrel. This is how I do it on my 680- I realize other models are different. Hope this helps.

Mike,
The POIs you find there are those that came preloaded with the maps. I was assuming that since you were asking about Cracker Barrel locations at the POI-Factory, that you had loaded our Cracker Barrel POI file and wanted to look for the locations within that file. Did I jump to the wrong conclusion?

Custom-POIs loaded by people here do not become a part of the built-in POIs and can't be searched for in the same place. Garmin has changed your menu from that offered on your 650 and my 660. I look under WhereTo/Extras/Custom-POIs to find them. I just looked at your users manual and find no reference to where they are found on your unit, but see if EXTRAS can't still be found either under WhereTo or Points of Interest.

extras

they are listed but it tells me nothing is loaded please visit garmin.com/extras. i really appreciate all the help in trying to understand and besides im learning a lot just discussing this .thank you.

Probably just an error in the Navteq data -- not your install. It is errors like that that encourage people to use the custom-POIs from this site. I see you have been a member here for over a year. When are you going to actually give it a try and load a file from here? BTW, once you do that, you will find a category for Custom-POIs under Extras, and tapping that will show you the files you've loaded.

Good luck.

do you delete the one from garmin ?

this may be a dumb question but ill ask anyway.the people who use the poi files from here do you eliminate the one that came with the garmin and start over ? ive downloaded 12 poi files from here and plan to transfer to sd card and rename each so they are in seperate files.wifes home tomorrow as long as her flight doesnt get canceled and ill have my sd card.

.

You cannot remove, edit, change or alter the preloaded points of interest in any way. They are part of the map database.

thank you motorcycle mama

thank you for the info.still learning.
mike

thank you

thank you for all the knowledge and help .wife is home/got sd card back/loaded pois to it and it works.this going to be fun.
