Low Volume Fix on the cheap!

Hi Folks,

Just a quick heads up for a cheap fix to your low volume problems on the Nuvis. If you take a piece of 120 pound paper and make it into a three sided box with the bottom or side open (Depending on where and how your gps unit is mounted) then tape this over the rear speaker, you will find it increases the volume of the unit. It's based on the old funnel in the ear principle only in reverse.

That's you two cent tip for the day!

Clint

TurboCC's program

You can also use Turbocc's TTS Voice editing program to increase the volume levels:

Wow

TurboCCC has some pretty cool utilities. I'm definitely going to try them out. Thanks Drew!

thank you drewdt .partially deaf and mine was at 80%.reset to 99%.

That's a cool trick,

That's a cool trick, clint45. I bet it'll work because I did something similar to it while talking on the (speaker) phone thru bluetooth. If I cupped my hand behind the speaker, I could hear better. However, that beats the purpose of speaker phone if I still have to use my hand wink

Turboccc TTS editor is great but won't help us solve low volume while using bluetooth speaker phone.

Audio volume control

One of the great features of the nuvi 7xx series is the FM transmitter. Set your stereo system sound level as desired.

Not a bod idea.

Nice how to Clint45. Not sure how ascetically appealing it will look though.

when I'm in town (Los Angeles). It only works when I'm in the middle of the desert (I-15) on the way to Las Vegas.

RE: FM Transmitter Doesn't Work

chewbacca,

Is your vehicle equiped with an auxiliary audio input for MP3 devices? I use this in my vehicle with the male-male audio cord for my GPSr.

A cassette player? If so, you can get a MP3 to cassette adapter - I use one in our Grand Caravan for an external audio input to the vehicle's stereo from my GPSr.

Both scenarios work great for use of the vehicle's audio system. Directions, POIs, MP3, and phone calls all work very well with my 760.

external speaker

I found a external speaker at WalMart that plugs into the mini jack of my 680--it uses AA batteries and has nice sound and volume. Cost about $12.

jrozsnaki,

Volume on phone set too low?

I've noticed with my motorola v750 that the volume on the phone affects the volume output via bluetooth. Thus when the volume on the nuvi speaker phone is too quiet I simply turn up the volume on my phone and not the nuvi, which is set to about 80% all the time. I have a 265wt.

Also, I've noticed that if the volume of the nuvi is set to 100% there is considerable distortion and tinny reverb on the bluetooth.

My $0.02.

Low speaker Volume

I have the Garmin 265WT and it doesn't have a external speaker jack. BUMMER

alokasi, I just tested it.

alokasi,

I just tested it. Doesn't work on my Nokia phone. Phone volume does not affect Nuvi 760 speaker output. The only way to change volume is on the Nuvi itself. Yes, you're right, sound quality degrades at 100%. I won't go higher than 90%.

Thanks Drew, I hadn't ever

Thanks Drew, I hadn't ever heard of this and was looking for something like it! Wish there was a mac version but i'll break out the netbook to do it i suppose grin

Try pairing a BT headset to the nuvi.

That's funny

Ummm... wouldn't it be easier to pair it directly with the phone? Why add a 'middle man'? smile

Great!

I had problem with my GPS voice, had increased to 100 and works great!

Thanks.

A company named Arkon Resources has a product called SoundFeeder that should solve your problem. Web site is www.arkon.com. I've been using a battery powered unit for several years with good results. It claims a 3dB freq. response 0f 50 Hz. to 15kHz. I found this unit emits a good signal as far as 20 feet.

a work around

For those that don't have a aux input, cassette player or even a speaker jack on their Nuvi, you can get a device like this one below stick it to the back of your Nuvi, and plug it into the above device found by jwc3006.

Let's see if I get this right. A cell phone, a Nuvi, a phone recording device, an external speaker. Voila! Speaker phone.

How about a headset to the phone? Easier.

You serious?

Where exactly is the use of wired/wireless headsets illegal?

Headsets/headphones/earphones which cover both ears are actually illegal in several states. You can google it if you really want to learn more.

Sorry, you can not pair a BT to a nuvi. I sure wish you could so I could use my BT head set and the nuvi. Most people I've spoke to using the nuvi ask me if I'm in a can (garbage or restroom). Nor can you pair a BT headset to a mobile phone when the nuvi is paired to it. (Now I've opened the door for some to ask why or tell me I have a cheap mobile phone, etc. Please spare me those comments!)

I know that already. I'm talking about bluetooth headset. AT&T sure calls them headsets:

Blue Tooth Profiles

Both the Nuvi and the BT earpiece/headset/handsfree device use the same Blue Tooth profile and BT only allows one device of that profile to be active.
