TomTom accessories

Greetings from Brazil!

I was thinking about a Garmin 885T, but many friends have chosen TomTom for the more frequent updates. So after reading a lot I have changed my option for a Garmin 885T for a TT 540, since Brazil cities and roads may more often change than in the USA.

Would like to know which accessories are suited for this unit not included in a standard TT 540 Box?

I am thinking about this Bracketron UFM-100BL Nav-Mat GPS Friction Dash Pad, but some guys report at amazon.com it would not be suitable with TT GO with its short neck standard Windshield mount.

TT has this TomTom GPS Dashboard Mount for TomTom GPS Navigators 9UUB.052.00, but I am not sure it works 100% by reading the reviews at amazon.

Is the Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount for nüvi Series and StreetPilot 010-10908-00 compatible with a TT 540?

I am thinking about the Garmin 010-10908-00. Would it work with my TT 540?

I will also buy the TomTom 9A00.280 AC Home Charger?

Anything else?

Regards,

Felipe

Need Gooseneck with Nav-Mat

Hi Felipe,

You are correct, the suction mount that comes in the box does not work very well with the Nav-Mat. However, you can buy the TomTom gooseneck mount and that works great with the Nav-Mat. That is what I did for my GO930 and I am very pleased with the results.

I do not know about the AC home charger since the GO930 comes with a docking station.

Please, which one you suggest it could fit to a TT 740?

Dear Shooter,

Many thanks in advance for your attention and patience.

TT has a GO Alternative Mount Kit 9M00.003, but seems too lengthy and unstable or not?

Please, which one you suggest it could fit to a TT 740?

Felipe

Mounts for GO 740

Felipe,

The GO Alternate Mount (gooseneck) is very stable. I bend it 90 degrees and it places my GO 930 just outside the rim of the Nav-Mat. I have taken it on several long trips and it has worked perfectly.

However, I am not sure it is compatible with the GO 740. I have not seen a GO 740 in person. From the picture of the supplied mount on TomTom's webpage, the attaching bracket appears different than the 720/730/920/930 bracket. Also, it does not include the GO 740 in the compatibility list; but maybe they just have not updated it yet. You should go to a store that actually has a GO 740 and a 730/930 and compare.

I did see that TomTom now has a bean bag dashboard mount that looks like it will work with their supplied (short neck) windshield mount. It is open on one side (like a horseshoe), so the GPSr won't bump against the bag.

Thank you, shooter!

Shooter,

Thank you very much for your attention and patience.

I live in Brazil and TomTom here has only introduced the x20 series. So everything I must see through the Internet. It is really hard. The Brazilian map itself TomTom Brazil does still not sell here. If we buy abroad without the Brazilian Map, we will have to buy it from TomTom UK and download it.

By reading the x40 manual I have found many troubles and will probably have to buy the TomTom "Active Fixed Dock Mount".

1 - It does not have an audio line output

I wanted to buy partially from amazon.co.uk. I have found a cup mount form Duradget.

I intended first to put the bean bag between my Ford Ranger cup mounts above the gear level.

In the urban areas I would prefer to use the mount cup and unmount and hide it when parking. I think it would get less visible from outsiders. But theres is a problem TomTom 740 does not have not a line audio output! I am trying to cancel the mount cup unit at amazon.co.uk.

I could wait for an appropriate x40 series bean bag (open on one side as you noted) for longer travels.

The manual says:

"...
Note: If you wish to use an audio cable, an Active Dock with an audio connector is available as an accessory. Your car stereo needs a line-in connector. Not all car stereos have line-in connectors. Check the instructions for you car stereo for more information.
..."

Neither the original "Active Dock" nor the unit itself have none????

Please see the picture in this review: http://www.yourtomtom.com/489/go-740-and-go-940-live-reviewe....

2 - Phone calls only through inside speakers

Does the Garmin unit do the same?

I will have to buy the "TomTom Dock Active Mount" and mount it anywhere on the car panel with 3M dual face stapes.

Regards,

Felipe

Interesting What TomTom Did With the GO 740

Felipe,

I think that is unfortunate; the 720/920 and 730/930 have an audio line output. My car stereo does not take a line output, but I am thinking about getting one that does. Either that or just get one with a USB port, and put all my music on a flash drive. rolleyes

For traveling around town, my wife made me a simple bean bag that I place in my cup holder. I then place my GO 930 on the bean bag and it works fine.

From reading the review and looking at TomTom's website, apparently not. You need to get an accessory.

TomTom removed that function (being able to transmit Bluetooth via FM) from the 720/920/730/930 also. Apparently it had something to do with violating a law or laws in Europe. I have heard rumors that they might give that function back to US users. I don't know about Brazil.

I don't know about the Garmin units. The only Garmin I own is a GPSmap 60CS handheld unit.

Shooter,

Many thanks in advance for your attention and patience.

1 - The "TomTom Fixed Active Dock Mount"

The "TomTom Fixed Active Dock Mount" would finally work great for me, because by using dual face tapes I will put it wherever I want.

Unmounting the unit it will be also easier without having to disconnect the audio cable.

2 - Phone calls only through inside speakers

I can handle it. Would it be changeable by firmware?

Regards,

Felipe

Yes, A Firmware Update

IF TomTom does restore that feature, then yes, it would be via a firmware update. They are very easy to do using TomTom Home.

Thank you again very much!

Shooter,

Thank you again very much for your attention and patience.

I t will take 2 months to arrive here, most of the time at the Brazilian customs.

Problems

I have tried to buy the TomTom Fixed Active Dock for the TomTom 740, which has an audio line output, but they enable me to register there only with an UK address.

I have found on resellers more expensive prices (almost double!) than the one at the official TT site. I hope with their launch at the US they can lower them and also alternative manufacters like Brodit launch cheaper options.

I will face the same problem when trying to buy the Official Brazilian Map not available at the Brazilian TomTom site.

Felipe

Brazilian Map

The Brazilian map is available from TomTom.com. http://www.tomtom.com/products/maps/select.php?D=3&M=27&Lid=...

tendriver, Thank you very

tendriver,

Thank you very very very much for your attention and patience!

I will wait to buy it after receiving my TT 740 here.

May the TT 740 with the Fixed Active Dock Mount be put at the driver's sunvisor or is it too deep for such a mount?

Regards,

Felipe

I am trying to find a clever connection for my TT 740.

I have found this IO PLAY from Britain. It seems an more improved version than the Parrot ones.

I am still annalysing but it seems the better solution with my TT 740.

Anyone had tested it?

Felipe

Did Your GO 740 Arrive Yet?

Felipe,

Did you get your GO 740 yet?

If so, how do you like it?

Ubfortunately not!

Shooter,

Thank you very much for your attention and patience.

It takes 1-2 months to the Brazilian customs to liberate and estimate the taxes.

Hopefully I will receive it in May, more probably in June.

Mount for your TomTom

Hi Felipe,
I recommend the TOMTOM Air Vent Mount Kit (9UUA.001.00)
I have tried many other mounts (suction cup to window, dashboard, etc). I find that this one is the best. Quick release unit from mount, and it is lower than the windshield dashboard types, height of your airconditioning vents. So no view obstructions. I utilize the audio cable to my car's aux audio input, plus power cable. No problems with this mount. Take a look by searching the net for TomTom Air Vent Mount. Runs about 18-20 USD.
Enjoy,
Dino

Dino1960, Thank you very

Dino1960,

Thank you very much for your attention.

I have been using a Duragadget universal cup holder mount and it is very discrete.

But for trips I need one which could be seen easier while driving my Ranger.

I will think about.

Best regards,

Felipe

I have ordered these for GPSr's in the past!

Tomtom Friction mount.

My Tomtom 540TM will not work with the typical dash pad. I am using the Garmin friction mount (flat, not beanbag) with an adapter that mates the Garmin ball to a bracket that replaces the Tomtom circular attachment to the receivor. The adapter was $3-5 on Amazon or Ebay.
