Nuvi Power CAble

Does anyone know why Garmin refuses to provide a coiled power cord as an accessory to replace the current unsightly cord? By unsightly I mean that I've had to bundle the excess cord into loops tied with a plastic tie. Looks awful.

Solution

Irish,

There are two simple solutions for your problem.

1. Cut the cord. Disassemble the accessory plug end, remove the wire from the internal connections, cut the cable to the length you need and reattach. Simple!

2. Go to eBay and search for "nuvi power cord." You'll be shown a long page of auto chargers with coiled cords. Buy one. If you need the traffic adapter just swap cords with your OEM plug. Done!

As for "why Garmin refuses" to offer a coiled cord..have you asked them to provide one and they said no? I have noticed coiled cords are used less and less for things like GPS and Radar Detectors that use a mini USB connector. It's possible they've had too many complaints from owners who stretch the coiled cord out too far. The spring effect puts too much tension on the connector and unplugs it as the car is moving. Not the manufacturers fault but they receive the complaints.

Thank you for the idea. I was thinking the same thing as the previous poster. Good solution.

Hit the nail on the head with this one. My office has ~60 sales reps with Blackberries (USB charging). The standard coiled auto charger ruined many USB ports on the devices because of the strain on the mini-USB connector when it is stretched while they are talking and charging at the same time. Finally found a 3rd party vendor who had auto chargers with a 6 foot coiled cord instead of the usual 3 foot cord and the problem went away.

As for the rest of us, I could not use a coiled cord. I have mine fished up through the dashboard where it's completely out of sight. Wouldn't be able to do that with a coiled cord.

Different strokes....

mine isnt colied and i have

mine isnt colied and i have my gps just under the rear veiw mirror and the cord is hard wired to the fuse box and run up the a-pillar and tucked under the overhead fabric and pops out at the mirror so you cant even see it
