newbie!

Hi!

I recently became a GPS user. Man.... after learning what a Nuvi can do... I should have bought one years ago! I ran across this awesome website the first weekend I had the Nuvi, and downloaded the red light camera and rest stop POI's. Incredible stuff!!

I'm thrilled to see such an awesome community of helpful folks on the 'net. smile

Welcome

There are many, many good things on this site, Paul. Not only POI’s, but people. Lots of good ideas, some wild, some not. Remember too, Garmin offers pretty good support for those really technical problems. Enjoy the site and the people.

Welcome

I'm glad to see you have found the site as useful as I have.

Newbie

I think I'm in big trouble. :>( I just discovered this site last night, now I fear I will be spending all my time here instead of looking for a job. YIKES!! Seriously, like most I'm sure, I didn't realize this world existed and all the possibilities that lie ahead. I have a feeling this website will grow exponentially and it hasn't even scratched the surface yet. I haven't had time to read many of the posts so I hope I'm not repeating anything for the millionth time.

Being a resident of the Northwest and a transplant from the Midwest I am already planning on making a POI list for White Castle hamburger stands. Might as well make it easy to find these gems where ever they may be. At the moment, I'm getting ready to download the "In and Out" POI list.

Newbie thanks

First, I'd like to thank all for the welcomes. It is hard to believe in spite of how fast life is, there are people willing to make a stanger feel welcome.

So far I haven't had any luck finding help on a Scion website so maybe someone here can respond.

My Nuvi 750 works fine in my wife's sport utility and my son's pickup, but it can't find a signal when I put it in my 2006 Scion xB. I assume it has something to do with the signal getting blocked by the nearly vertical windshield but no matter where I put it, it's a no-go. I purchased an external antenna on E-Bay yesterday in hopes of solving this problem but I would be curious to know where to look on this website to see if others have solved the same problem.

Welcome

Welcome to both kilrbe1qazxcvb and Scanguy. I'm certain you will find this site to be a wonderful time sink - as in you'll marvel at how much time you sink into reading and learning.

Welcome aboard! You will be amazed how much you can learn and how helpful people are here.

Great Site!

This site is awesome and I tell everyone I know about it!!! smile

I just want to add my thank you!

I was fortunate enough to find this gem of a site when I was looking to buy my 1st GPS and I am glad to see how unselfish everyone here is and the humanity that is reflected through its digital space.
Thanks for making this nifty gadget so much more fun and efficient!
wink

Thanks everyone!

Thanks for all of the warm welcomes, folks! razz When I join new groups, usually I see a few "hi" messages. Not here! A ton of people said "welcome!". Almost makes a middle-aged guy blush with all of this attention. surprised

Anyway.... yes, I've been scouring the boards and download area here. Lot's of great POI files and info, to say the least! I have the red light, speed camera, and rest stop files loaded in my Nuvi. I'm sure that I'll load other POI's before my next trip out of town.

I learned a trick for using my Nuvi 780 on hiking trails last weekend. I'll post that info in the Garmin area for others to see.... assuming that I don't find that someone already added the info to the board.

how do I find my old posting?

I posted a reply the other day and wanted to go back to it. Is there a way to find it (or this one when I forget where I posted it?)

Recent posts

On the menu on the upper right (under your account name), select "Recent Posts". You will see a list of recent topics, with two tabs - "All Recent Posts", and "My Recent Posts". Click on the "My Recent Posts" tab, and you will see a list of the topics you posted in. When I do that, I get all the topics I've posted in back to when I signed up two months ago. Just click on the topic of your choice to view it.

Sullivan's Law: Murphy was an optimist!

Now that you know

Now that you know what you can do with your GPS, you need to let all you friends know too. I've just been using mine locally for trips up to 150 miles but this summer I expect to put it to the test with a 5000 mile round trip. Find a restaurant? No problem, would you like American style or seafood or.....
How about a motel? Sure, lots to choose from and the phone number is there so you can call to see if they have openings. Tricky intersections? Not anymore.

Welcome...

to poi-factory

searching for self posts - Thanks all. "recent posts" worked
