I found the instructions about adding custom alert sounds to be very helpful. One thing that I think could be added is that the poi files must be renamed the same prior to the download to your computer. If you rename them after the download, they will not work.

you can rename a file anytime

Why would they not work if renamed after downloaded?

First of all, you can't rename them prior to downloading.

Second, you certainly can rename them after downloading. But I think I know what you are doing wrong, see below.

You might mean by renaming them prior to download, actually changing the name during download. Some software will let you change the name during download, but not all, or configuration settings may not offer this option to a novice user when it actually is available, so it would be bad to suggest that the renaming must be done during the download (when it is not true).

Your problem that makes you think that the name can't be changed after the download is likely due to using Windows and not turning off the awful "feature" that hides the extensions for known file types. This is an awful feature and can only cause problems, exposes people to viruses and malware, and never helps anything. Confuses novices and is disabled by experienced users. You are likely not really naming the fies what you think you are naming them, but have a hidden double extension. To fix this go to any windows filder. Under the tools menu pick "folder options ...". A window with 4 tabs will open up, pick the 2nd tab, "view". Look down through the lisy of options, find the one named "Hide extensions for known file types" and uncheck it, then press "apply". Look at your file names again and it should now be obvious why your files are not working.

While you're completely correct I can't understand why anyone still uses Windows file manager. Try Total Commander from here:

Best file manager on the planet.

Because it's there

I don't have to load any "additional" software to use what comes with the operating system and once I know the issues about file extensions, I don't have to worry about it changing until I change the O/S.

If you bother to click on the link you'd see it does a hell of a lot more than "comes with the operating system".
