Fm traffic

I have a NUVI 760 and was about to subscribe to the FM traffic lifetime subscription for $60.00. The question I have is will the Traffic alerts be verbal or just show on the screen? Next question will the verbal alerts play thru my cars stereo? Is it worth it?

RE: FM Traffic

Clearpoint and Navteq traffic alerts are not verbal, they just show up on the screen "if they are on your route" otherwise, you have to do a manual inquiry to bring up athe traffic map and step through individual traffic events that are posted.

It usefullness is a very subjective topic. If you're in an area where coverage is good and it may very helpful. It has never helped me (yet) but I do recognize the potential.

Thanks for your reply. Does Clear Channel operate in the same mode as Clear Point and Navteq? Display Only?

I believe

I believe when he said "Clearpoint" he meant "Clear Channel". And yes I think Clear Channel is display only.

Not 100% accurate

But mostly so. It speaks "Traffic Alert. X minutes delay" and puts the yellow traffic icon on the screen when there is a traffic event on your route. After that, you have to tap the icon to see what it's talking about.

Thank you.

I stand corrected. Thank you for that clarification.

Traffic

Some time it's very stupid. It guide me on and off the freeway for couple time and sometime when you get to the point where traffic pop up, it may be clear already. Google maps provide traffic more acurate and updated.

"Traffic Ahead"

I always get an alert ... my nuvi says "Traffic Ahead".

traffic audio alerts

I use a c550 w/gtm-20 and TMC traffic
While NOT on a route (no destination selected), traveling on (Texas) Interstate 35 North (to work) and South (leaving work), I get an audio alert "Slow traffic in 10 miles" I also get another (or two) as I get closer ie "Slow traffic in 2 miles". I will then get "Entering slow traffic" when I reach the particular point.

........Garmin StreetPilot c550 / Nüvi 765...........

Is it worth it?

For $60, yes.

As a professional driver this feature has saved me many hours sitting in traffic because it allowed me to determine if I want to take my chances with the traffic warning or pick a different route.

Do keep in mind that the traffic information works much better in clear weather and is not as helpful in bad weather until you are in the given road.
