New nuvi models??

Garmin has models on their webpage with numbers:

1200
1250
1260T
1300
1350
1370T
1390T

Did a quick check and the 1390T is available for pre-order from amazon with an available date of May 20, 2009.

hmmm

This looks like the upgrade path for the 2x5 series. The 1200 and 1300 series use the GTM25 and GDB55 receiver cables.

Looks like this series is going to be transit capable - perhaps bus schedules and route planning via what Garmin is calling CityXplorer™.

Looks like the GUI has been tweaked again too:

Great News

I have my eye on a 755T and the more new units Garmin releases, the sooner the 755 price will drop.

You do realize the new models have FEWER features than the 755, right?

Sure they add new features...but at the same time, they remove other features, then re-introduce them in a later "new model" series. If you've been using Garmin products for as long as some of us here have, you know this is common practice. You will ALWAYS lose some feature when you "upgrade" to a new model. And to top it off, Garmin has no "has-it-all" model either. Their newest supposed top-of-the-line nuvi 8x5 series does not have many of the new features that the 7x5 series has. Depending on how you look at it, upgrading from the 7x5 to the 8x5 may actually be a downgrade.

As I said

As I said in my second post. This looks like the upgrade path for the 2x5 series. I would expect the "1400" series (or whatever higher number they choose) to replace the 7x5 series and have many of those features. Since the 1200 and 1300 series both use the GTM25 and GDB55 (not the GTM20 and GDB50) that the 2x5 series uses (and only the 2x5 series). These Gxxx5 cables cannot connect to the powered windshield mount of the 7x5 series and thus the unit itself needs to be plugged in on each use and then cradled. This is what leads me to believe that the 1200 and 1400 are the low end (read 2x5 replacement) models. I would bet by this time next year the 2x5's will be on the discontinued list.

Having Fun with a 1250

I have a Nuvi 1250T and have really enjoyed it. I have been using it for a little over 3 weeks now and it has exceeded my expectations.

I have been able to use the 1250 for city driving right out of the box in part to the excelent database of locations that was pre-installed. I was impressed with the offroad/pedestrian mode that I have used for geocaching, since it usually gets me within 10 foot accuracy to the cache. I have been using GSAK for geocaching management and am able to go "paperless" by including locations, details, logs, as well as hints for each cache. With the proximity alert, as I drive around, I am able to locate cache sites close to my routes.

I recently traveled from Iowa to Portland, OR an have been equally impressed with the traffic notifications with automatic detouring and re-reouting.

I will be purchasing another unit for my wife to use in her car since my experience has been so positive.

Nuvi 1390T

Purchased Nuvi 1390T, but had few bugs & Garmin ended up replacing it with another one. Replacement unit had exactly the same problem/bug & as a result, they released a new patch (software update v2.70) which fixed the problem, but then keyboard started acting up & after calling Garmin this morning & they helped calibrate my Nuvi 1390T.
BTW, calibrating the keyboard on Nuvi 1390T is not as straightforward as it is on other Nuvis.
Now, finally, my Nuvi seems to be working the way it should.

Bugs

Seems like a lot of bugs that should have been worked out by now.

Upgrading

I've been toying with the idea of upgrading from my 350. I really like the 350 and have considered just updating the maps and keeping it, but it doesn't provide lane assist or display speed limits. Also, it has a 3.5" display and the widescreens are very appealing. Everytime I get ready to make a decision, new units come out. There are so many to select from now that I'm not sure what I need to do.

Bugs & more Bugs

Did I hear anybody say BUGS???

Yep, bugs & bugs & more bugs. Prior to my new Nuvi 1390T, I purchased a Nuvi 785T for my wife & that unit was nothing but a nightmare. Garmin replaced the unit 3 times, to no avail. Finally Garmin admitted there was a problem & recalled most of the 7x5 & 8x5 series as a result.

I am looking at the new models b/c they offer the pedestrian mode. however, they are missing a lot of the features that the 7x5 series have. I am still leaning toward the 767t for the other features it offers.

765T

I made my decision yesterday afternoon. I ordered a 765T from Amazon.com. It appears to have everything I want in a GPSr and the price of $279.99 was too good to pass up.
