POI For State Owened Land For Hunting

Guys iam so new at this and dont know what i am doing. Any help would be nice, maybe a person with more knowledge than i have which is all most zero.If some one is willing to take this on i will help as much as possable, with the knowledge i have.Mybe start with the southeast states and moving on to do all states.Maybe ( MISS POI ) would be interested in helping.

THANKS RON

For starters.

I think the easiest way would be to get a copy of GeePeeEx Editor and a map showing the locations. Then locate them using satellite maps.

I would think it best to mark a waypoint on each of the four corners of huntable land.

It will be easier to find the land on a map than it will be on the ground.

POI for state game lands

Ronald, that's a great idea for all the outdoorsmen/women among us. I don't hunt either but I spend a lot of time hiking on Pennsylvania's state game lands. I just looked up the PA Game Commission's web site and checked--there's over 250 in PA right now! They range in size from around 1,500 acres to well over 20,000 acres in some. I live near the first one designated in PA (#25) and it's one of the bigger ones at 24,000+.

Our state has a lot of topo maps available online and it looks like the parking areas are all marked on them. Unfortunately, there isn't any lat/long data on a topo and they're not interactive to show any.

I was wondering if you were thinking of making up your POI showing parking areas? Some large state-owned plots will have multiple ones for each.

Good Luck!

Question on content

Are you wanting a POI for the center of the area, the parking area, the beginning of the access roads into the area, or maybe the check station? Alabama hunting areas are not square so the four corners will not work.

All of the above

I would say all of the above and label it as such. It's always helpful to mark the boundary of the land. I know I've been to public areas and it can be difficult to know how far you can walk.

I'm starting with the Check Station which is where you need to start if hunting.

Finding the location is 90% of what you need to know.

Alabama posted

I have posted Alabama Hunting areas in the POI area. If you would like to use it as an example you can. If you wanted to incorporate them into one large national POI list that would be ok also.

List of PA Game Lands

I have no idea how to create a list, but here is a link to the PA Game Lands:
http://www.huntingpa.com/sgl.html

If you can figure out how to do import it, please let me know.

Regards,

Curt

does anyone ever use the search function?
