765t Problems (turns itself off)

I just shipped my second 765t back to Garmin. The first one kept shutting off when going down the road. One time it went off for 16 hours on a trip. It came back on the next morning. I also had problems with it's directions. Instead of putting me back on a freeway about a mile away it kept trying to route me cross country on secondary roads about thirty miles out of my way.

The second unit could not be updated with web updater. My computer would recognize it but web updater would not. I spent about three hours on the phone with three support guys while they tried to get it going. They finally did but three hours later I was right back where I started. This unit also turned itself off two times before I sent it back. This is not my first Garmin but it's certainly the worst. Has anyone else out there had these experiences and if so were there any fixes. I've been without this thing more than I've had it so far.

There are several nodes on this subject. I sent back 3 765's before I finally swapped for a 785T. Hopefully, I got rid of this problem. Interestingly enough, I must have talked to 5 different Garmin techs abou this issue and none of them ever heard of this problem with the 765. I even talked to software support and they claimed they never had any reports of this problem. Odd, since there have been scores of people in this forum, alone, that have reported this issue. My personal theory is that it is a power issue with the power cable. Since the 785 uses MSN, it requires a different power cable and thus may fix the problem. I got my new 785T yesterday. I'll wait and see if this issue arises again.

I thought the 765 and the 785 were the same units.... except for the type of Traffic receiver that comes with the unit ?

They are the same unit...but

They are the same unit...but the receiver is different because of the MSN, thus, it requires a different cable from the unit to the lighter. It's a different power cable, so, if the power failure problem was because of the power cable, it might fix the problem. I'm just thinking if there was a bad run of power cables for the 765, it wouldn't hurt to try a different power cable. So far....so good.

755
