Do you prefer 3.5 over widescreen?

Do you prefer the smaller 3.5" GPS units over the wide screen units?

Me I've always preferred something pocketable, and the 3.5" GPS units seem to fit much better in my pocket / bag / jacket, than the wide screen unit.

For some reason the widescreen just seems too big for my tastes.

Do You Prefer 3.5 Over Widescreen?

I prefer the smaller screen. It shows all that I want and fits just right in my pocket.

The Bigger The Better :-)

I prefer my 4.3 wide screen..

As a matter of fact, I have Microsoft Streets and Trips and I use it now and then on my laptop. GPS is -great- with a 15 INCH SCREEN. It beats 3.5 and 4.3 hands down.

You can maintain extremely high detail when you zoom out to show 3 miles in all directions. If you're in a city, you can read all the street names. You can zoom out to see the whole USA and it see all the major cities and all the interstates.

Using a laptop is much like having a jumbo Rand McNally road atlas.

Of course the big problem with laptops is that they aren't that portable and impossible to mount in some vehicles. I only use mine when I go on long trips or when I fly...

For around town when I'm in and out of the car, I use a pocket sized 4.3" wide screen unit.

Totally Agree

I used DeLorme maps with a Bluetooth GPS receiver on a 17 inch laptop and it was great. But the laptop is a pain in the car and my wife hated having it on a lap tray on long trips. So I bought her a 750 that I get to use when we use her car. I still use the DeLorme maps to plan trips as their progrom is far superior to Garmins. Once planned, then I used the Garmin software to build the route.

Also, the 750 fits into my pocket or the wife's purse much better than the laptop.

Actualy I like my R2H (UMPC)

Actualy I like my R2H (UMPC) with MS Street and Trip. It shows much more information when zoomed out than 3.5" GPS or even wide screen GPS. The problem with all stand alone GPS is that they show vey little info when zoomed out.

Larger screens

I have the 4.3 screen and many times I wish it were larger-- like maybe 7 inch. The old eyes need all the help they can get.

I have the 350 and

I have the 350 and 660...
Both have their advantages.

The 350(4x3) is smaller more portable.
I use the 350 when out and about..or driving with somebody else.
I'll keep it with me 'just in case'.
Additionally, the battery lasts much longer! And because I typically dont take a cable with me in such cases, this is a HUGE advantage

The 660(wide) is the primary for my car (it also has traffic) for long trips. Of course the widescreen offers a better a view, as well as being more legible in bright light. With the sun shining with the T-tops off, the 660 is clearly better.

I couldnt say I prefer one over the other as both have their place and advantages.

Like a Widescreen TV

I hung onto my old style TV set for a good while, thinking it was just as good as the HD Widescreens (or at least not much difference). Then I finally broke down and bought an HD widescreen. Major difference! I think it's the same with the GPS units. I have a 3.5, but bought the widescreens for our company trucks. The wider screen is a real difference. Much easier on the eyes and much clearer display due to the extra width. Next time, I'll definitely go widescreen.

I prefer the widescreen. Not really that much difference in size, but it is easier to view it from the driver's outlook. And the 880 does have stereo which I presume makes its voice sound beter in the Audible Books function. And perhaps the spoken directions.

I like widescreen too. It's the format of future displays. However, I still can't figure out why some of us like something that gives us less vertical viewable area which happens to be our direction of travel most of the time grin

Widescreen

I've look at both the 3.5" and widescreen and the widescreen was easier on my eyes.

The Widescreen

i love the widescreen also.

Size does matter

I like 3.5" unit for easy to carry. I listen to it more than look at it. When I want to see the side streets, I zoom out. For those do not use zoom, would 7 inch units be even better? How about 10 inch, 12 inch...? how much is enough and too big to carry?

The 3.5" works for me . . .

. . . so far. I like the size for carry but then I haven't tried to carry the wide screen. I'm sure I'll like the wide screen if I get one.
