Does anyone know how to upload a new picture to a GPS instead of the pre-loaded ones they come with?

Greetings,
I am a new grandpa and would like to replace some/all of the pictures in my Nuvi 250W with pictures of my grandson. Can this be done?

I am a new Garmin owner so I just may not know the procedure or, if you've already cracked that nut, where to look.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Mike

Yes, you can

I am not familiar with the 250W specifically, but on my 660, all I have to do is connect the nuvi to my PC with a USB cable and the unit is recognized as a disk drive to the PC.

Using My Computer (in Windows XP) I found a folder called JPEG which is where the picture files are stored by default. You can copy as many jpg photo files of your grandson into that folder as you have room for.

Picture dimensions and file size can be important to conserve space and fill up the screen.

Here is a discussion that may help:

Connect the GPS to the

Connect the GPS to the computer VIA USB Cable. Open the drive for the GPS and check the JPEG Directory, all pictures will be there.

transfer by "my computer"

Assuming that you use windows you can just transfer then in by opening the drive letter for the nuvi in the "my computer" interface. Look for the pictures folder (it's called that or something similar to that). You can delete the sample pictures there and/or add you own. You ay want to format the pictures for best display on that LCD screen (crop them to the same aspect ratio) and I would also suggest uploading copies that have been reduced in size to match the LCD display. The nuvi should resize larger images, but no sense in filling up the nuvi with pictures that are several megs each in size when as 10-20k picture will look good on the screen and is really all that you are going to see.
