Map Source problems

.

More details are needed.

What maps did you have installed in your MapSource? The version of MapSource that you can download doesn't have any detailed maps. It only has a basic basemap.

Go to View > Switch to Product and see what map products are listed.

Also, be sure that the View menu has an item that reads "Hide GPS Detail". If it reads "Show GPS Detail", be sure you select that as well.

I have City navigator North

I have City navigator North America 2009.1 installed and the View is set to show map not hide it. I had made several maps and downloaded one to GPS and working on another when the map just dissapeared..Have reloaded it from Garmin but same thing..

Hi Teppler ... hey, have you

Hi Teppler ... hey, have you checked to see if you haven't "scrolled" the view off North America, and onto the blank part of the page? (There are scroll bars on the bottom and right side of the map) .. often in my Mapquest, depending on what I do, I have no map showing and have to scroll around with the scroll bars to "find" the continent again.

Garmin 205, 260W, 1450LMT, 2460LMT, HEREwego for iPhone ... all still mapping strong.

I checked to make sure I

I checked to make sure I hadn't scrolled off..I uninstalled MapQuest and reinstalled it and now it says there is not one or more installed mapquest products installed.any other suggestions??

I'm confused about what you are trying to do.

First you indicated that you downloaded MapSource from the internet.

Then you indicated that you had City Navigator v2009.1 which leads me to believe that you are dealing with the map update file that was just released a few days ago.

The update file is designed to update the preloaded maps on your GPS unit and should do so automatically by running the EXE file. Sending maps from MapSource is not involved.

So, can you give more details? Am I completely misunderstanding what you are doing.

I'm confused as well..okay

I'm confused as well..okay as far as I can remember here is what I have done so far..I purchased a new Nuvi 5000 and updated the map I also downloaded Map Source from Garmin web site and it had the map I indicated on it or maybe I downloaded it not sure right now.. But the original download of Map Source had the indicated map on it and I had used the software and even created a map for my new nuvi and downloaded it to it..Then as I was working on another map it just dissapeared...Now I have uninstalled it using add and remove and downloaded another file and now it says "Cannot find any installed MapSource products, please install one or more MapSource products and start MapSource again"..

I'm also cofused but what's new?

When I updated my nuvi 270 by running the exe file it also installed it in mapsource... This was the 2009 update not 2009.1....

Yeah, the update map file installs the update in MapSource, but sending the maps from MapSource is not the way that you use the update file to update the preloaded maps in the GPS unit.

.

The OP, I'm not sure what you mean by "as I was working on another map it just disappeared". What exactly does that mean?

Uninstalling it was probably not the right thing to do, but if you are getting that error message, then you need to go back the original file that you installed (whatever file that was) and install that file first.

Then if you also downloaded the MapSource PROGRAM UPDATE from Garmin's website, you would run that AFTER you already have MapSource installed on your computer or (as you saw), it won't work.

Also, to try to clarify some of this (the best that I can understand what you are doing), the update map file that you can download can only be used for a single GPS unit. And the proper way to update the maps is to RUN the update EXE with the GPS unit connected to the computer and allow it to update the preloaded maps.

You do NOT update the maps by sending them from MapSource. Do that will result in duplicated map regions.

Also, be advised that EACH TIME you send maps from MapSource to the GPS unit, it creates a file named GMAPSUPP.IMG on the unit. AND this will overwrite the previous GMAPSUPP.IMG file that may have been on the unit.

So, if you already updated the maps on your GPS unit, I'm not sure what you are attempting at this point.

I was under the impression

I was under the impression that Map Source was used to make trip routes that could be downloaded to the GPS. I didn't intend to update the GPS. I had created one route and downloaded successfully to GPS and was working on another route when the map in Map Source just dissapeared. I will contact Garmin Monday and see if they can get me back going again..thanks to everyone here for your help.

Ok, well you said that you transferred maps to your nuvi. But you really meant routes.

Yes, MapSource can absolutely be use to create routes for use on the nuvi 5000.

It sounds as if initially your detailed maps got deselected. I guess it's too late now, but when you checked under View > Switch to Product, was there a checkmark next to the City Navigator maps? And again, I would advise the Crtl-G function to be sure that MapSource is viewing the GPS map detail.
