Summary:

Surprised state lawmakers learned Thursday that the photo enforcement cameras they authorized last year to catch speeders are actually taking - and keeping - videos of everyone who passes...

The information came out as a House panel debated legislation to outlaw the operation of fixed and mobile cameras on state roads....

they learned that the cameras do more than snap still photos of those clocked driving at least 11 miles over the speed limit. In fact, they actually are recording streaming video around-the-clock...At this point, the future in doubt, the committee voted 5-2 to kill the program which, in turn, would eliminate the videos.

!

Now I know of a great many devices that stream video but only keep the 10 seconds or so before and after an event. Are they certain the device is keeping all the video it is shooting? It would take quite a large storage device to hold a couple of days worth and even more if the camera wasn't serviced for a week or more.

90 days

"At the bare minimum, everybody should be made privy to the fact that if you're driving on everybody's highways we're taping you, 24/7, and we're going to hold it for 90 days," he said.

It is probably just going to be reworked so that they no longer record and the cameras will stay.

They hold it forever in Mo

There is a movement in Missouri to outlaw red light cameras and a bill has been presented that is working it's way through the house right now. To combat it, many of the cities banded together and produced a video of worse accidents caught by the cameras. Most of the video is over a year old. While the police are saying the amount of tickets issued has gone down at established camera locations, they fail to mention that the accident rate is unchanged. And the bigger issue is that the increase in red light camera income comes from new locations!
