Leave GPS in car or take inside?

Just wondering what most people do.

I'm not so concerned with theft, living in a small town with nosey neighbors and a huge locking console in my truck but I'm kind of paranoid at what effects the extreme temps may have on the unit. Mostly the screen. Would be interested to hear if anyone has had any bad experiences leaving their units to the ravages of temperature extremes, or for that matter if someone in Death Valley or Nome, Alaska has never had a problem.

I bring mine in the house when it's not in use. So what do ya'll do?

Thanks for the input!

Take it with you!

Leaving it in the car is inviting thieves.
I am not worried about the battery of your car to much.

I would think the biggest

I would think the biggest issue would be the battery in the heat of the dash.

Out Of Sight

Generally try to hide under the seat with the bean bag

Dashboard heat

I would always put up those sun reflectors on the dash, and those pull down shades for both windows in my truck. You brought up a good point.

Old Thread

But still a valid question.

I keep my GPS in a console safe:

That way, it stays out of sight and out of the sun.

All my units have magnetic mounts which make it a snap to stash in the safe.

On my travels

I used to take the GPS into my hotel. But in this day and age when GPS's are becoming a bit of a rarity and many people use their cellphone for driving directions or have an in-dash GPS most info is now moot.

Leave it in car

I always leave mine in the car now and sometimes still on the windshield. Nobody really steals these things anymore and most people just use their smartphones. Only time I take it off the windshield is if I'm not driving for a few days because the stupid thing falls off. I even cleaned the glass and replaced the suction cup mount and it still does it.

Leave in the4 care

I leave my GPS in the car. However, in hot weather, I notice that it is not as responsive to touch, and it takes longer to input a destination

Both the times and I have changed

When I got my first gps 16 years ago, wherever I went my gps went. I was religious about not leaving it in my car unattended when I left my car. Over the years I just got of the habit and now I rarely take it with me when I go somewhere. However, there does remain one time it does go with me and that's when my wife and I stop at a hotel/motel while travelling. Then it goes into the room with us.
