I have seen older threads for some Garmin units that allow a way to eliminate the screen that comes up asking if you want to load the custom POI's on the Garmin?? If I wanted it on the Garmin, I would place it there!
Is there any way to eliminate the screen that comes up every time I boot the Garmin? Any hacks?

Yes
On those devices which don't offer the checkbox on the first screen to not ask anymore, saying "yes" brings up a second screen for each gpi file on the card; those screens allow you to say "No" to each file AND they give you the checkbox to quit asking.
So, you must say "yes" if you mean "no".

I have a Nuvi 200W with custom POI's loaded and never get the warning! I'm confused!

Say yes to mean....
Something zen about that. Worked great!

Are your POI's loaded on a SD card?
If the custom POI's are loaded on a SD card, a screen comes up every time the 200W is powered up asking if you wish to load the custom POI's onto you Garmin. A little counter intuitive to say yes when you just got done loading it onto your SD card. When you open the next screen (i.e. just say yes), it gives a screen to opt out of loading custom POI's onto the Garmin.
