Navigon 7100 doesn't automatically announce maneuvers?

I've used Garmin GPSr's for a while but just got a Navigon 7100 (couldn't resist the deal). The UI isn't as user-friendly, but I can live with it. Updated the firmware to 1.2. On first use on a short trip, I was surprised that the unit didn't automatically announce maneuvers at all. One has to tap the next maneuver area on the screen for it to say it. Is this normal? Can't find any applicable option in the settings menu, and the PDF manual is no help. TIA.

You might try the Navigon forum link below

You probably will not find anyone here with much experience with the Navigon 7100 because it does not support custom POI installation and there is no third party software for that available. Most people here are here for the custom POI information and downloads.

Navigon just announced at CES that they will be selling yearly subscriptions for red light camera POI's and a additional POI database for $29.99 each.

This is a link to a forum that deals with all the Navigon units:

Odd

I have heard good things about that GPS. I have not heard of that complaint. Have you tried to call them?

Thanks for the Navigon pointers

Yeah odd, must be something I set funny in the unit. I'm sure I'll get the problem resolved. It's not that bad, but the only compelling reasons I had to go with a backup GPSr being a Navigon was the low price for a product with free traffic, and the $50 street price for the 3-year fresh maps. I'm tired of spending too much $$ on the Garmin map updates (too many highway exits changing in IL!). Otherwise, the Nuvi will remain my primary GPSr (with the red lights). Thanks again.

I have the 7200 and I think

I have the 7200 and I think the announcement is a setting in one of the menus. Also noticed that one of the voices doesn't do TTS just "turn right in XXX feet"
Sorry couldn't help with which menu as it's the wifes GPS and stays in her car.

Excuse me! What exactly is it that you don't like about Navigons anyway?

Sorry it seems rjrsw spoke out of line, there are indeed Navigon users here, he just don't Navigons and beleives they will go extinct.

Your 7100 can with out a doubt give you turn by turn directions, you jsut have to turn them on in the menu. You can also load custom POI's with the 7100 if you get a program called POI-Warner availale at the link below. Any other elp you might need just ask.

This community is definitely not just for Garmins, otherwise it wouldn't be a community, it would just be a forum.

POI Warner for 7200?

BobDee have any idea when the new version of POI warner might come out so I can fix the severe lack of POI's in my 7200T? I ask because you seem pretty knowledgeable about what going on over there.

What you need for your 7200 and the 8100 is POI-Warner for Navigon MN7.

The German edition of POI-Warner for MN7 is already available. We are currently working out the translation of our manuals and product descriptions. POI-Warner for MN7 is different from other POI-Warner editions and thus we do not want to sell it without detailed descriptions.
Our plan is to publish the international edition in January 2009.

Keep an Eye on the link below for the announcement:

Once MN7 is out The Navigon GPSr's will hands down be the finest GPSr available dollar for dollar on the market, with features others are clambering to copy.

Thank you

Once MN7 is out I will have to pick your brain on using it. I think the 7200 is a great GPSr but the included POIs are embarrassing. With the help of POI-warner and POI Factory think I can fix that.
What file type does POI-warner use and is it worth it to go to the POI site they promote?

Thanks again for the Navigon 7100 Pointers

Thanks again everyone for all the pointers. Being a long-time Nuvi user, it is actually nice to own another product that I can play with and compare user interfaces, displays, performance and so on side by side with the Nuvi. By the way, my original problem with the unit not speaking the maneuvers was fixed by poking the reset button. Now I'm up against the "the destination cannot be loaded" problem for previously stored favorites. Got to contact their tech support to see whats up. Other forums are not much help.
