Removing voice files to make more RAM available

I have been editing my voice files with TTSVoiceEditor software. There are many voice files that I will never use. Does anyone know if removing those extra unused files will make more room for CustomPOIs while not having a negative impact on operation??

do it

Go ahead, do it.

Sure

If you do a search for "delete voice files", you will find an estimated 100 threads where it has been recommended as an easy method of freeing up storage space. Web Updater will allow you to replace them at any time.

Right you are bentbiker

Thanks bentbiker, that was just too simple for me to think of. Next time (maybe) I'll be smarter.

Languages, Not Voices

Removing unneeded 'language' files from the GPS is pretty much SOP. You can also remove 'voices' but sometimes a little variety can be entertaining. You might want to keep several.

Cheers wink

languages are a drop in the bucket, voices are large

Language files don't get much space back. Voice files do. I certainly will keep the US and british voices on my non-TTS unit (neither of which I care for all that much) and unless pressed for space the 2 novelty voices from the Garmin website. I've been thinking of flipping the unit over to Spanish just for the novelty, but as soon as I need the space (that's a way off on my nuvi), the alternate voices are gone.
