gpx format spefication

Can anyone provide me to a quick link for a good specification to the Garmin gpx format? Searching for it here is getting me way too many hits and none that I have come across yet seem to actually get into what is the definition of the contents, and searching on the Garmin site comes up suspiciously lacking. I'm sure the information is there somewhere, but I'm having trouble finding it.

There's a link to the official GPX schema from the developers.

Also, check Phil's site for info.

Phil? Who's Phil?

Thanks for the link. Looks like an ugly spec, but it's a place to start. Other references still welcome.

As soon as you said to "check Phil's site" I though to myself it must be documented somewhere on Gary Hayman's site, but a quick search of the min home page didn't come across anything. But who is this Phil? That name doesn't immediately make me think of some site to check. I likely have seen it, but can't match the name to the site at the moment.

who is Phil

He is another one of those quys that offer a program for poi that has a small charge that you said you wouldn't pay for, and he is a member of this site.

What I sad was, in one very specific instance when someone suggested that I download a program for checking for errors (duplicates) in someone else's file, but didn't mention that it was a program that I had to license, I decided not to use it when I found out that I needed to pay for it, when it required .NET, and when I was forced to use PayPal as the only payment choice. If Phil is retiredtechnician then yes, that's the person. If he just "another one of those quys" as you say, then I'm very unclear on why you would post what seems like a personal attack just because I made a perfectly legitimate choice not to buy something. I have nothing at all against someone selling software (even retiredtechnician), and I buy software and even send in donations on freeware. But I do get a choice in what I will buy and what I will not.

Not misquoting or taking a personal attack just was stating who Phil is and it isn't RT. You are taking things to personal. I could care less if you buy sell or donate to freeware or anything else it is your choice.

What you need to remember, is that Garmin have many teams - who don't seem to talk to oneanother...

...so what works for one Device, or one piece of software, doesn't necessarily work for another sad

So, although GPX is just XML and the statements, attributes, values etc are all documented; what they mean is sometimes interpreted differently.

Phil's program doesn't use .NET.

And I said to check Phil's site (I didn't mention his program) because Phil is the resident expert on GPX.

Edit:
See? Right on cue. smile

thanks

I never tried to say or imply that it did. I was just responding to another post that seemed to me to be misrepresenting something else that I had said in a different thread. I'll leave it to you do decide if that post had any valid reason to include what I see as a vague and out of context reference just to answer the "Who is Phil" question. I have no issue at all with Phil. While we may have exchanged messages in some thread in these forums, I have no specific memory of ever even typing with him.

No problem in mentioning it (I'll do so, GeePeeEx), I just didn't put the name together with the site or program. Thanks to Miss POI who gave the link.
