Win A Garmin nuvi 850!

Hope I win.

Hope I win.

product placement

Between this and the "24" vehicles in the Garmin garage, I certainly expect that we are going to be seeing a lot of overt and distracting "product placement" for Garmin gps in the new 24 season, just as we have been seeing Cisco products over the past few years.

Hope it's mine...

Thanks for posting the link.

Problems

I'm also getting the "problem with server" error. Any ideas?

how to register / server error

Registering was not clear to me at first...

In case others are doing the same thing -

The website was not clear on HOW to register for the drawing. If you click on "RULES", scroll all the way down, and click "ACCEPT", it will take you to the registration page for the drawing.

If you tried the same thing I did at first and clicked on "sign up" (top left), this may be the reason you received the error "problem with the server"

YEEEHAW

Win A Garmin 850

Well, I entered too. It is a great prize. Just too bad that it is a discontinued unit. I am sure that their sponsor got a great deal on them.

JG - Nuvi 2460

Sure hope that I don't win

Well, I entered, but if I win I may have to decline. Look at what they call the value of the package. If you win the federal government will come after you for tax on that, and based on their full retail price, no consideration given for what this discontinued unit really is available for by the time you actually get it (and tax on the 24 promotional crap too). And then your state will come after you for more tax. Cute prize, but I don't think that I could afford to win this (and please don't even suggest that I deal with the electronic bay of thieves to unload it).

Win a Garmin Nuvi 850

Thanks. I just entered. Hope someone wins who is a member of the POI Factory.

So why did you even bother to enter if that's the way you feel about having to pay a tax, that is IF they even bothered to come after you....

Oh, you're one of those who only bothers to pay the taxes after they come after you? I have to admit that I entered without thinking about it, but then realized that this prize is over the threshold that will get it reported and you better claim it when you file, or when they do come after you there will be interest and penalties (fines) as well.

Wasn't there a story in the news just a couple of years ago about some geek who won a trip to the International Space Station as a prize, but had to decline it because he would have been taxed millions on his "win"?

Thanks for posting!

I have no issue paying the tax if I win.

That goes for me too Backlash....

This reminds me of some winners of brand new cars on the Oprah Show some years back. I don't recall how many, but some of them refused the new cars because they either couldn't or didn't want to pay the taxes on them. The cars varied in value between 25 and 32 k. Guess what? For that kind of gift I'd sure exhaust every possibility on earth to keep that freebie.smile)) Somehow paying a small amount of change for a new Garmin 850 wouldn't be a second thought of mine.

Be Well.

a small amount of change

Rayzers wrote:

It very well may be worth it to some. After all, some pay close to full retail for this unit. But it's not really "a small amount of change", I figure it would cost me about twice what I paid for my new nuvi 250 just to accept this "prize", and may cost others more if they are in higher tax brackets.

hope i win

grin
hope i win my mom need a gps she gets lost easy so if i win it will go to her

Pay only a fraction of MSRP?

Thanks grush for point out this contest.
Lets see... IF I win I have to pay income tax on it because its income... So I have to pay a whopping 15% of the MSRP for a unit that cost much more than I'd normally pay, but less than I have paid for GPSrs. Sounds like a great deal to me...

I remember those fools that got the cars from Okra and cried to anyone that would listen how much hardship the tax burden would be. Didn't they figure out that they could SELL the car they were given, pay the taxes on it and then buy another NEW car with what was left over???

When I was actively flying I was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). They give away a refurbished airplane every year or two to a member. The always planes they give away are way too expensive for my budget to own or operate, so I always said I'd fly it a bit to have fun, sell it off, pay my taxes and buy a plane that fit my budget...

Same thing here. If you win one of these Garmins, sell it on ebay, pay your taxes and get another one for a lot less. Then you'd have a free new GPSr, essentially tax free, plus if you bought a low enough priced unit, you'd have extra money in your pocket to boot...
