Hot Fix

Anyone have any input about this new (I think) feature and if and how well or better it works.

am i missing something here?

He's asking about "HOT

He's asking about "HOT FIX"

His user name is FLIP.

Hot Fix works great on my new NUVI. Much faster to find and lock onto the satellites than my old WASS GPS.

Do you have a better description?

Is there a link or do you have a better description of the new feature?

Hot Fix

I find that it finds satellites pretty fast ... of course by the time I get through all those screens OKing and agreeing to things it should have a fix on satellites! grin

It's a good thing that there's GPS systems or I would be ... always lost!

Depends on Chipset

phranc - I believe you have a different chipset. My limited understanding is that the Hotfix (InstantFix) only applies to certain chipsets.

You can sort of tell the chipset by the GPS SW Version. You have 2.80m and don't have the Sirf screen. I have 3.00s and have the Sirf screen.

Edit - here's the thread which discusses chipsets by model. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/18143

Does this mean that Hotfix

Does this mean that Hotfix will only work on certain units? I mean, if my 760 doesn't have the Sirf screen will Hotfix not work? It boots so slow!

Ok

760 Hotfix Capability

Use Tools, Settings, System, About to display the GPS software version

GPS SW Version = 3.00s is the MTK v1 (Mediatek) chipset with Hotfix

GPS SW Version = v2.80m is the SiRFstar III (type G) chipset without Hotfix

EDIT: This is based on the information provided from the link in GadgetGuy2008's post above.

Don't you have these reversed? m suffix for Mediatek and s suffix for Sirf?

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Thank You

Drat, that sounds cool, but

Drat, that sounds cool, but mine's not supported!

Wait for it.....Wait for it....

Maybe you missed it in the other thread but the 800 series got the Hotfix as part of a firmware update. That provides good reason to think the other supported models will also see Hotfix as part of an update.

Cheers

Yes Bentbiker, I did have those reversed. I mis-read the GpsPasSion post referred to by GadgetGuy2008's post.

3.00s is SiRF,2.80m is MTK.
