Finding POI's I've put on my Nuvi

I've downloaded the POI's then put them in a folder. I then opened POI Loader and picked the correct folder and was told that my POI's will be loaded to my Garmin. I don't see them. How do I find them? Do I have to unlock anything?

Model?

Depending on your model, press:

Where To > Extras > Custom POIs

Should be

The files once you load them with the poi loader should show up under the extras, custom poi. then find what your looking for.

I'm new to the GPS thing and

I'm new to the GPS thing and have a 760 and have the same problem Patrick had. I spent many hours poring over the POI libraries and uploading many and all sorts of POIs w/their associated Icons and they don ot appear on the 760. I used the POI loader as instructed several times and I still get only a very small subset of the many POIs I uploaded into the 760 (I did the "Where To > Extras > Custom POIs" thing)

Also, in the POI loader I selected the 'remove previously installed POIs' option, then reloaded and still no dice.

I went into the 760 directory via windows explorer and cannot locate all those POIs I loaded (almost all were cvs files), I looked under each 760 folders and sub folders and none of these files are there, yet it shows that the Nuvi drive is 85% full. Are these files "hidden" an not accessible? As a backup I added a 512 Mb SD card in the slot that is empty.

Any help would be appreciated!

POI.GPI

POI Loader takes the various csv and/or gpx files on you PC, converts and uploads them onto your 760 into a single file called poi.gpi, usually in the Garmin\Poi folder.

If I am not mistaken

If I am not mistaken - only the 50 closest POIs will show up - if you change the GPSr's position - by selecting "near" another location you will see different ones which are the 50 closest to that location.

Under a given category, only the closest 50 locations show. If you want to prove this to yourself, search "near" a different city and a different group will show.

Edit: I don't type as fast as MrKen.

Your POI files need to be organized so they are all loaded at the same time. Each time you load a new poi using the loader, the old file is overwritten so the file only contains the latest load.

For help on organizing POI, there are several threads giving different methods. The easiest for a neophyte is to create a folder in your computer with groups of folders (one level deep) under the main folder. Put your POI in the proper subfolder and then use POILoader on the top level folder. Run POI Loader in the manual mode and you can set alerts.

Ok, great . .got it

Ok, great . .got it straightened out! I found out the hard way that the max number of files per folder is 32! I had to create more specific folders to overcome that limitation.

One more thing . . . I downloaded the corresponding icons for each POI file, but when I look up the POI location on the map, all I get is the generic icon - is this becasue you are only allowed one BMP icon per folder? Do I need to place the icon in another Nuvii folder? I did make sure that the bmp icon file resided in the same folder as the POI file.

Thanks !

.

You need a separate icon for EACH Custom POI file for which you wish to have a custom icon loaded.

Be sure the the icons are named identically to the Custom POI file (except for the file extension). Also, double check for double file extensions (eg Starbucks.BMP.BMP) which will cause the icons not to be loaded. Be sure that your file browser is set NOT to hide extensions.
