Costco Garmin Nuvi 760 (5-31-2008)

Costco currently has Nuvi 760 for 350. Should I jump on this? I am currently using Nuvi 350 and Garmin C530. What additional functionality is in the Nuvi 760?

It basically adds a wider screen, ability for custom routes, MSN direct, fm transmitter, and a qwerty keyboard layout.

Good Deal!

I paid $399 two weeks ago and thought I got a suoer deal then...Wish I had waited.

And Sam's Club sells the 750

And Sam's Club sells the 750 for $299. I bought one there this week. I live in more rural upstate NY, so not having traffic updates and such doesn't really effect me.

Thanks for letting me know..

Thanks for letting me know.. I might check sam's club tomorrow. 5% increase is still cheaper than costco's price.

Bluetooth

The 760 adds Bluetooth if that is important to you.

You can always get the traffic antenna for future needs

Costco has best Return policy

Costco still has the best Return policy...in fact I may return my 650..and get the 760

My understanding is they only provide traffic reports for metro areas, not the boonies. I am wrong?

You are correct

Nope, you're right that MSN Direct doesn't provide traffic updates everywhere. It only works in major metropolitan areas.

Traffic updates are ONLY for main highways

Right?

I haven't seen any traffic updates outside the main highways. Not much more than what the radio stations report.

Multiple via support on 760

Multiple via support is an awesome feature on the 760. That alone should be worth getting the unit.

If you need a regular unit, amazon.com has the Nuvi 350 for $199.99 (no tax except WA state).

I would - I too have a nuvi 350. That's 35 less than I got my new 760 for. I just ordered mine from the web for 385 (no tax, free shipping); realdeal.com for anyone else in the market.

Costco Garmin 760

WOW... that is a VERY tempting price.

I already have 3 Garmi units, but this may make me flinch and pull the trigger.

Thanks for the price alart

Thanks for the price alart.

Good Price

Sounds like a good price to me! Thanks for the tip.

Amazon also has the 760 for $349.99.

I guess they're doing the same thing as Costco. Cheaper than the 750. Hmmm. So tempting.

Garmin pricing...

I can't see the retailers eating the price on the sales we keep seeing, so Garmin must be doing a rotating price to keep some of their units selling at extremely low prices.

Sounds to me like Garmin is the newest "mattress" MFG. You know the routine, "It's half off this week only!!!" or "Wait another couple of weeks, as THAT model will be onsale then!!!"

Smokin' HOT!

I think the Amazon deal is better than the COSTCO deal. Amazon sez free shipping (when I looked last night). COSTCO hits non-members an additional 5% + charges shipping...at least that was the deal when I purchased my 360 from them a couple of months ago.

Cheers!

760 has SirfIII chip?

I have a nuvi 680 and just ordered the nuvi 760 from Costco yesterday. It should be interesting to see if there is any real improvement between the 600 and 700 series units.

However, I know that when the 700 series first came ou there was some controversy over whether or not the 700 series nuvi's included the sirfIII chip or a custom proprietary "high sensitivity" chipset from Garmin.

I don't remember ever reading a conclusive answer on that issue. So does anyone here know whether the 700 series uses the sirf chip?

Yes and here is a link to GPS review on how to determine what chipset you have on the 7xx series.

Costco's Nuvi760

I also purchased the 760 from Costco online a few weeks ago for $450.00. Yesterday I received an email from Costco telling me that they were going refund $100.00 because they had just negotiated a lower price from Garmin. I have never had a company do this . If they do it for me they must be doing it for others. I would look into it if I had purchased one recently.

CostCo pricing

I was in CostCo yesterday and they had NUVI 680 for $349. Saw the same at Camping World a month or so ago for only $850. I like my 680 and do not plan on upgrading to the 760---- yet!

Nuvi 360 at Costco

Nuvi 360 is at Costco and best price anywhere. Especially when on coupon. Yes Costco has coupons. the 360 is great we really like the bluetooth with our cell it makes it handsfree. Once set up soon as you get in vehicle and turn on it finds your cell phone and even if you forget its got you hooked up for hands free cell talking. Plus all the other things. Its great.

Best Buy had them [about a week ago] for the same price as Costco. I checked the stock at various stores nearby and all but one had them in stock; 4 hours later only two of the 6 stores had them. I ordered online and went and picked it up that evening. Better option for me since I have a BJ's membership, but not one at Costco.

I don't know this for a fact..But if true...

But this a.m. I received a forwarded email:

Best Buy has some bad policies....

Normally, I would not share this with others, however, since this could happen to you or your friends , I decided to share it. If you purchase something from, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, JC Penny, Sears etc. and you return the item with the receipt they will give you your money back if you paid cash, or credit your account if paid by plastic.

Well, I purchased a GPS for my car, a Tom Tom XL.S from 'Best Buy'. They have a policy that it must be returned within 14 days for a refund!

So after 4 days I returned it in the original box with all the items in the box, with paper work and cords all wrapped in the plastic. Just as I received it, including the receipt.

I explained to the lady at the return desk I did not like the way it could not find store names. The lady at the refund desk said, there is a 15% restock fee, for items returned. I said no one told me that. I said how much would that be. She said it goes by the price of the item. It will be $45.00 Dollars for you. I said, all your going to do is walk over and place it back on the shelf then charge me $45.00 of my money for restocking? She said that's the store policy. I said if more people were aware of it they would not buy anything here! If I bought a $2000.00 computer or TV and returned it I would be charged $300.00 dollars restock fee? She said yes, 15%.

I said OK, just give me my money minus the restock fee.

She said, since the item is over $200.00 dollars, she can't give me my money back!!!

Corporate has to and they will mail you a check in 7 to ten days.!! I said 'WHAT?!'

It's my money!! I paid in cash! I want to buy a different brand..Now I have to wait 7 to 10 days. She said well, our policy is on the back of your receipt.

I said, do you read the front or back of your receipt? She said well, the front! I said so do I, I want to talk to the Manager!.

So the manager comes over, I explained everything to him, and he said, well, sir they should of told you about the policy when you got the item. I said, No one, has ever told me about the check refund or restock fee, whenever I bought items from computers to TVs from Best Buy. The only thing they ever discussed was the worthless extended warranty program. He said Well, I can give you corporate phone number.

I called corporate. The guy said, well, I'm not supposed to do this but I can give you a 45.00 dollar gift card and you can use it at Best Buy. I told him if I bought something and returned it, you would charge me a restock fee on the item and then send me a check for the remaining 3 dollars. You can keep your gift card, I'm never shopping in Best Buy ever again, and if I would of been smart, I would of charged the whole thing on my credit card! Then I would of canceled the transaction.

I would of gotten all my money back including your stupid fees! He didn't say a word!

I informed him that I was going to e-mail my friends and give them a heads up on this stores policy, as they don't tell you about all the little caveats.

The in store return policy:
Restocking fee
A restocking fee of 15% will be charged on opened notebook computers, projectors, camcorders, digital cameras, radar detectors, GPS navigation and in-car video systems unless defective or prohibited by law. A restocking fee of 25% will be charged on Special Order Products, including appliances unless defective or prohibited by law.

New York is currently forcing Amazon and any online retailer that has an affiliate program in NY to collect sales tax on any sale shipped to NY. Amazon has filed a lawsuit, but who knows how long that will take. That said Amazon is where I just got my nuvi 350, paid tax but got free shipping. That was the still the best deal I could find.

It's the wise guys who buy stuff and use it for a free rental during a vacation trip that ruin it for all of us. This list of items that have restocking fees are the most-often items that are abused in this fashion. Once the box is opened, the store has to sell it as an open box item at a reduced price, so they lose money. The rest of us honest folks end up subsidizing the dishonest ones.

man the nuvi's just keep dropping in prices

MSN Support

The 760 is great but it has MSN only if you buy the $100+ antenna. It does not come with it. That is the 780.

Have you ever see BB have open stock for sale? Frequently it is at a HIGHER price than current pricing or higher than the current sale price and they just give you a blank look when you ask them about it.

I don't buy from Best Buy for this and many other reasons. Especially a GPS!!!! If it comes with a 2006/2007/2008 version of the Maps, you are screwed!!!!

BEST BUY

I too purchased a gps from best buy. It cost me $45 to return it. I don't do any business with these "electronic" stores. Their prices are all out of line. I needed a double male ended line to plug my nuvi into the aux outlet in my car. Cost $14.88 at circuit city. I paid $7.49 at walmart.
