Nuvi 755T-Splash Screen Size

Have searched the threads and do not see one relating to this so if duplicate, I appologize.

Attempting to put a custom splash sceen on my new Nuvi 755T. Have opened one of them on the unit to see size, DPI etc. Resized (using Photo Shopt) one of my JPG photos to exact dimensions and when it is viewed in the unit, it is very small. Have resized it several times and no matter what I do, it remains the same size and the unit still displays it small.

Have attempted to use the ximage program, but it does not recognize my Nuvi and garmin's web page does not list it as a compatible device.

Does anyone know how to create a custom splash screen the correct size for the unit?

?

Not sure what you mean by "one of them" -- you should have looked at the original splash screen image. Did you try 480 x 272 pixels? According to Garmin's specs, that should work.

I do seem to remember somebody reporting that one model uses an image that is smaller than the screen in the vertical direction by 80 pixels so that there is a space at the bottom for the copyright info to be displayed in a bar instead of on top of the picture.

Nuvi 755T-Splash Screen Size

The "open one of them" comment means that I opened one of the Garmin photos in Photo Shop. Yes I dupllicated the size, the resolution, and all the data I could. Regardless of what size (pixels) I save one of my JPG photos as, they are displayed VERY small only covering about 1/4 the garmin opening screen. I have "googled searched" the topic and have found several people asking the same problem for other Nuvi units, but have not found an answer. The closest answer was to use the Garmin Ximage program, but as I said, it will not recognize my gramin so cannot use it.

Is there something special that Photo Shop puts in the photo that the Garmin does not recognize do you suppose?

This is not a critical issue, but being a computer type guy, it frustrates me when I cant get something to work the way I want it to!

Thanks

If the unit is reducing the size to 1/4 screen size, it doesn't like whatever you chose for the resolution. Resolution should be the only important thing. As I mentioned, you should look at the original splash screen on that unit and find out what the resolution is for that one. Of course, you must save as a jpg, not PhotoShop format.

Nuvi 755T-Splash Screen Size

The orignal resolution is 96 so I set my photos to that one. The image was 430X320 and I set it as close as I could to that. The original size was 5X3 and I set it to very near that and no luck. Still is displayed very small. I did make a copy of the orignal and made a couple of small changes and saved it with a different name to preserve the original. It comes in like the original.

The photos were taken with a Canon Digital camera. Do you suppose there is something in the camera profile that Garmin is not liking?

Even used two different software photo editors besides Photo Shop and got the same results so I have to assume there is something my photos Garmin doesnt get along with for some reason.

Try 480x210

Try 480x210. This is the optimum size on my 265WT since they force a black bar across the bottom for the loading and copyright info (which requires a change in the aspect ratio of your image). Maybe it's the same on the 755T?

The display resolution of 96 dpi and 5" x 3" size are not important -- the GPS display uses the dpi setting it is designed for, and the size is the result of the screen resolution in pixels divided by the dpi. I would bet that if you can get create a jpg of PRECISELY 430x320 that it will work; I have to admit that the 320 vertical pixels makes no sense in light of the screen having only 272. I tried to send you my email address so I could take a shot at it for you, but you evidently do not have a contact email loaded into your profile.

Thanks for the info. I do

Thanks for the info. I do have an e-mail address in profile. Hate to post it publicly, so not to worry. I will continue to mess with it and hopefully find the magic bullet. Perhaps you are on to something as the original photo will not come out exactly the same size and photo shop has the constrain proportions box checked so perhaps if it cannot duplicate exactly it wont display the same. I will uncheck and see what I get.

Thank again. Will post if I get the solution.

Try this

http://home.comcast.net/~ghayman3/garmin.gps/page7x5.01.htm#...

Search the page for "7X5T SPLASH SCREEN SIZE" less the quotes.

OR

a 1/4 of the way down the page.

Good news. Bentbiker thank

Good news. Bentbiker thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I unchecked the "constrain proportions" box in Photo Shop and set the image to exactly 480 X 232 as all the splash screens in the Garmin are set at. Saved it back to the Garmin and it is perfect. Fills the screen like the others and looks great. Since the difference in the two sizes are not but a few pixels and the Garmin screen is small, you no not notice it is stretch slightly. So apparently the exact dimensions are required for a splash screen.

Thanks again. Do appreciate it. Now I can sleep tonight - LOL.

Within your profile, you need to go down to the checkbox to allow contact.

Checking the box just means that you will allow other users to contact you through the website's contact form.

Your email address will NOT be displayed in your profile or anywhere else on the forum pages.

I wrote an article about this in the beginning of December and published it on the GARMIN TRICKS, TIPS, WORK AROUNDS, HINTS, SECRETS & IDEAS Web site.

7X5T SPLASH SCREEN SIZE
......There Is A Difference

I also supplied readers with a 'sample' Splash Screen that they could download.

Check it our at:

arrow http://bit.ly/garmin_gps_tricks

It is on Page 1 of the 7X5 section.

(Its 480x210 for maximum coverage of the screen)

There are more 7X5 tips included on that page and there are more to come.
